Play Golf in College

The car ride home is where you lose them.

You mean well. “What happened on 7?” “Why’d you three-putt?” “Did you practice that shot?”

To you, it’s interest. To them, it’s criticism and judgment, and repeated over hundreds of car rides, you become the person they dread being alone with.

The best thing you can say after a round? “I love to watch you play. What do you want for dinner?”

Let them come to you. They will, when the car stops feeling like an interrogation.
