THE FINALE 🏆

This Sunday marks the last game of the season as The Social take on league rivals Oldbury in the Northern Tournament Final. 🤩

It’s a competition that has brought together teams from across the country, and after months of football only two remain. Fittingly, both finalists come from the Black Country. A testament to the quality of players and football being produced in the Midlands.

The two sides know each other well. Our league meetings this season have produced contrasting results, with Oldbury coming out on top in the most recent encounter, ending our title hopes before going on to secure the MFFL West championship. They fully deserve their place in this final and will provide another huge test on Sunday.

That sets up a mouth-watering finale to the season: MFFL Cup winners versus MFFL West League champions.

The match will be played at Park Hall Stadium, home of Cymru Premier champions The New Saints FC, providing the perfect stage for what should be an exciting occasion.

After lifting our first trophy as a club on Sunday, confidence and belief are high within the squad. The celebrations have been enjoyed and will be for a long time, but the focus has quickly turned to one last opportunity to finish the season on a high. We know the challenge ahead, but we’re ready for it.

🏆 MFFL CUP WINNERS 🏆

What a day. What a team.

We started brightly and got our rewards early, with Chez bursting down the right and picking out Rob to finish for 1-0. The pair combined again shortly after, with another through ball from Chez allowing Rob to grab his second and put us 2-0 up. CR7 x RB10 🔥🔥🔥

Redditch responded well and put us under plenty of pressure, but we held firm to take our lead into half-time.

The second half was a different story as Redditch came out flying and pulled one back from a corner. With momentum swinging their way, we needed a response, and it came from skipper Geordie, who rose highest to head home a superb George free-kick and restore our two-goal cushion. 🤩

As the game opened up, Jack added a fourth with around 15 minutes to play and put one hand on the trophy. Redditch grabbed a late second, but it wasn’t enough as the final whistle sparked scenes of celebration.

Dave got Man of the Match today with a solid shift at right back, continuing his outstanding improvement this season. 👊🏻 big game, big player.

Special mention to our keeper Westy. Outstanding from start to finish, commanding his box and making some huge saves when we needed them most. After everything Westy and his family have been through recently, this win is dedicated to them ❤️

Unfortunately, the game was halted for a lengthy period following a clash of heads involving Reese and a Redditch player. Reese was taken to hospital but is doing okay, and we’ll keep everyone updated. We also wish the Redditch lad a speedy recovery. 🫡

Massive respect to Redditch MvF FC 🙏🏻 a top group of lads and a fantastic side. They’ve had a brilliant season and pushed everyone around them in two competitions. They’ll be back stronger next season. 💙

And that’s that. In our very first season, Sandwell Social are MFFL Cup winners. 🏆

We’ll be completely insufferable with the photos this week, and we won’t be apologising for it.

🏆 MFFL CUP FINALISTS – SANDWELL SOCIAL 🏆

After a huge first season in the MFFL, Sandwell Social now head to Finals Day with the chance to become the first ever winners of the MFFL Cup 👀⚽

We caught up with Sandwell ahead of their final against Redditch.

💬 On the key to their consistency this season:
“Being a close group of friends gives us a really good connection on and off the pitch. Every player is willing to run through brick walls for each other. Team spirit is high and that never-give-up attitude has helped us massively.”

💬 On the 5-2 semi final win over Lichfield:
“Some of the lads have really put the effort in over the past few months to lose weight and it’s given us the edge. We were sharp and the increased fitness levels really showed. Even late in the game we were still finding goals.”

💬 On using the league title disappointment as motivation:
“Absolutely. We dropped points to two very good teams but we know ourselves we could’ve done better. Since then we’ve stayed unbeaten in this competition and used those results as motivation. We’re ready to rewrite our wrongs.”

💬 On what winning the MFFL Cup would mean:
“We’re still a newly established team so just reaching the final means a lot already. From the gaffer to the fans travelling to support us every week, everyone’s excited. We’re all ready… ready to make sure Sandwell Social becomes the first name on the Cup.”
