You’ll see this view again this Sunday!

If you’ve run the Back Your Badge Marathon before, you probably recognize the Friendship Gardens Bridge. These photos are from past races, and this Sunday, September 20, runners will once again make their way across the bridge as part of the bybmarathon.

And if you’ve been thinking about joining them, it’s not too late! There’s still time to sign up for the 5K, half marathon or full marathon and be part of the race.

Once the race is over, the bridge will close beginning Monday, September 21, for some much-needed maintenance and improvements. The project is currently expected to continue through October 26.

The work was put out to bid earlier this year and will include both structural and aesthetic improvements to the bridge.

We know the closure will change the way some residents get around, so we’re sharing detour routes to help you plan ahead and will keep you updated as the project progresses.

We have some good news! Our temporary chiller is up and running and keeping the Richard A. Carlucci Recreation and Aquatic Center cool and comfortable. Current temperatures are approximately 73° downstairs and 75° upstairs.

With the facility cooling properly, aerobics classes will be held tomorrow, and the fitness center will be open all day.

Because we want to be especially cautious with the younger and older participants served by Playworld and SilverSneakers, those programs will remain offline tomorrow and resume Friday, Sept. 11.

We are still working on a permanent solution to the HVAC issue, but this temporary chiller is allowing us to keep the facility comfortable while that work continues.

We know this has been a frustrating situation, especially after our recent extended closure, and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we’ve worked through it.

Thank you for sticking with us.

At 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 8, the fitness center is closing due to the elevated temperatures inside the building.

We apologize for the inconvenience, especially after our recent extended closure. We know this is frustrating, but the safety of our guests, staff, and instructors remains our number one priority.

We are continuing to work on a temporary cooling solution while we wait for the permanent HVAC repair. We are hopeful this temporary solution will allow us to better manage temperatures inside the facility and potentially keep more areas open and host classes, even as outdoor temperatures rise this week.

One thing we have observed is that temperatures inside the facility are significantly cooler in the early morning hours and begin climbing by mid-morning. We will continue monitoring conditions throughout the day and will make decisions based on the temperatures inside the building.

Please continue following our social media channels for the latest information, including any additional closures or class cancellations.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this unexpected HVAC issue. We know you want to get back to your normal routine, and we’re working to make that happen as quickly, and safely, as possible.

Due to the ongoing HVAC issue and elevated temperatures inside the facility, we are taking some additional precautions tomorrow to help protect the health and safety of our visitors, instructors and staff.

The following programs will be canceled Tuesday, Sept. 8:

* All Aerobics classes
* All SilverSneakers classes
* Playworld

The aerobics room is currently one of the warmest areas of the building, and we are being especially cautious with programs that serve older adults and young children.

We will continue to monitor temperatures throughout the facility tomorrow. Additional areas, including the fitness center, may need to close or operate on a modified schedule depending on conditions, particularly during the afternoon.

Our team is actively working on both temporary and permanent solutions to improve temperatures inside the facility. We appreciate your patience as we work through this unexpected issue.

Please check our social media channels for the latest updates before visiting the facility, or call 317-839-7665 with questions.

Thank you for your understanding as we put the health and safety of our patrons and staff first.

UPDATE: We continue to monitor conditions throughout the Richard A. Carlucci Recreation and Aquatic Center as we work through the ongoing HVAC issue.

As we monitor internal temperatures, some areas of the facility may be temporarily offline or unavailable, including the fitness center and other areas that have been closed or may need to close based on conditions.

Our team will continue monitoring temperatures throughout the building and will adjust operations as needed to help ensure the safety and comfort of our visitors and staff.

We know this situation is frustrating, and we appreciate your patience and understanding.

For the latest updates, please check our social media channels or call 317-839-7665.
————————————————————————-
We are currently dealing with an unexpected issue with the building’s air conditioning system that is affecting temperatures throughout the facility. Our maintenance team is working directly with HVAC professionals to address the problem, and we are actively exploring every reasonable option to get the building back to comfortable operating temperatures as quickly as possible.

While we work through the issue, we encourage visitors to drink plenty of water, take more frequent breaks, and listen to your body during exercise or other physical activity.

We understand the timing is frustrating. It’s frustrating for us, too. We appreciate your patience while we work through this. We’ll continue to keep you informed as we have meaningful updates to share.

Thank you for sticking with us. We’re working to get the Carlucci Recreation Center back to the experience our members expect and deserve.
