Spring Training Overview
Game 2
Iowa 3 UWM 2
Mack Miller was fantastic on the mound as he scattered 7 hits over 6 innings. Milwaukee held the lead until the bottom of the 6th and were unable to answer. The two runs were scored on RBI hits from Alex Elliott and Mack Miller.
Game 3
Oklahoma St. 6 UWM 3
Ryan King was very effective in his innings pitched as he had all of his pitches working which allowed him to strike out the side for the first time in his career he believes. One bad inning was the downfall for Milwaukee as this one slipped away. Runs scored on RBI hits from Eli Rawinski and Tyler Wendt.
Game 4
UWM 17 Bowling Green 2
This one got out of hand behind Matt Willems who was dominate in his 3 innings pitching. Also the fact that Milwaukee was able to put up 9 in the second and 7 in the third behind patient and timely hitting. Andy Velazquez came in in the 4th and was effective only giving up 2 hits and. Austin Freiboth had a break out game going 2-3 with 3 runs and 3 RBI's
Game 5
UWM 11 SUNY-Brockport 5
Wilson "the Swiss army knife" Belknapp was proved his value as he put on his pitching cap and held Brockport to 4 runs, only one earned. Milwaukee Hitters were at it again with timely hitting from Tyler Wendt and Jack Glosson. New addition Vince Markello came in to shut the door and was effective in his first club outing.
Milwaukee Club Baseball is back in action as they start their spring season in Plant City, FL. First game on the schedule was UW-Madison DII. MKE got off to a great start when Tyler O'Brien hit the first pitch to right field for a double. Milwaukee would then go on to load the bases but unfortunately couldn’t push one across. Milwaukee would go on to load the bases in the second but still couldn’t break the seal. They would end up getting a run in the third and fourth but that would be all they could push across for the day.
Sam Watters was assigned with starting the first game back in action. He would start off rocky but would leave the bases loaded in the first. He would then give up 3 in the second and 9 in the third. That would be the end of the day for Watters finishing with 3 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 1 K, 6 BB. After Watters, Wendt came in to chuck. He was unable to stop the runs from coming across as 3 more runs came in securing the disappointing run-rule loss.
Takeaways: We should probably practice.
Short turn around as Milwaukee will be back on the field today as they face the nationally ranked Iowa at 11:30 am. Mack Miller will be taking the hill for Milwaukee. They will then play again against Oklahoma State at 2 pm with Ryan King on the mound bringing the heat.

After a gut-wrenching loss on Saturday, Milwaukee drove back down to Northwestern to finish off the Fall season. Luckily today, there was no cross-country race and the weather was better.
Milwaukee started the first game off strong again as they put two runs on the board after Tyler "BOT" O'Brien and Kyle Olsen both walked to start the game. Alex Elliott and Hunter Garsky were able to get them in. They were able to get 3 more runs in the 5th after O'Brien and Olsen were able to get on base again, this time on an error and a team strikeout, which we all know is when you strike out on a pitch that hits the dirt and reach base. Elliott would come through with an RBI hit to score O'Brien and Wendt would drive in Olsen and Elliott. Defensively, Milwaukee got behind their 6'5" starter Mackenzie Miller. Like Matt Willems was the game before, Miller had the strikeout working early and often as he quickly accumulated 8 strikeouts through 3 innings. Northwestern was able to get a run across in the second after an error. That would be all that Northwestern could muster as Miller had his best stuff. He would finish the game with 14 strikeouts and only allowed 3 hits while walking 2.
Final Score:
Milwaukee 5
Northwestern 1
Game 2 Milwaukee got behind Jacob Goldsmith in his final game for the club team as graduates in winter which is a major bummer. He got early run support as Milwaukee was able to score in the 1st inning again thanks to an RBI groundout by Kyle Olsen and a big 2 RBI hit from Ben Jenders. Milwaukee was on the board again in the 2nd after a RBI ground rule double by Alex Elliott. If the fence in the outfield was connected to the ground Olsen would have been able to score from first and Elliott would have been able to get thrown out at 3rd because he thinks he is fast when clearly, he isn’t. The big inning for Milwaukee came in the 5th when after the first two batters of the inning were retired, Tyler O'Brien hit one off the top of the wall (weight room). That was then followed by 2 walks a hit by Tyler Wendt that nearly took off the pitchers head it set up the table perfectly for Wilson Belknapp as he cleared the bases with a 3 RBI triple. He would then get driven in by Ben Jenders as he would collect his 4th RBI of the game. As Milwaukee collected its 11th run that would be far more than enough for Goldsmith as he would go the full 5 innings in the run rule game. His line would finish at 5 IP, 1 R, 8 K, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 HBP.
Final Score (5 Inning Run rule):
Milwaukee 11
Northwestern 1
SATURDAY RECAP
Milwaukee hit the field after a 2-week hiatus and finished its final games against their conference opponent Northwestern.
Game 1 was rocky before the game even started. As the team arrived at the field they received word from Northwestern that the games have been moved back to 1:30 instead of 12. Gutted. They were gutted again by Loyola Academy security and told to leave the field until our game because we were "trespassing" but in all reality we just wanted to be spectators for the Loyola Academy Cross Country Team. Team hiking specialist Hunter "Gunter" Garsky, was the most excited about the race. Once the race finished and the medals were handed out, Milwaukee started to get ready in for the game then Mother Nature decided to let some lightning strike and the team was gutted once again. After 30 Minutes, the game was set to start with 40-degree weather and 25 mph wind gusts. Ideal baseball weather.
Even with everything going poorly for the Milwaukee Club team before the game, they came out swinging and were able to score 4 runs in the top of the 1st with big run scoring hits by Tyler "BB" Wendt and Bradley Carstens. Milwaukee got behind Matt Willems in his first start since the first weekend and he was stellar to start. besides giving up a home run to the 3 hitter he retired 6 of the first 10 batters he faced with strikeouts. After the 1st inning the Milwaukee was able to push 2 runs across in the 2nd and 1 run in each the 4th and 5th. Willems would run into trouble in the 4th as he gave up a 3 run homer that got over by a hair. The final blow to Milwaukee came in the 6th when Northwestern completed their comeback and rallied to score 7 runs in the 6th, 4 coming with 2 outs. Sadly, Matt Willems great start came crashing down and his final line being 5 2/3 6 hits,10 runs 5BB, 2 HBP, 9 K, 2 HR. Milwaukee was able to get 1 more run in the 7th but that was not enough. The fatal gut. final 11-9 Northwestern.
Then all of Milwaukee got gutted as the Brewers lost and the Dodgers advance to the World Series.
Winners: Northwestern, Cross country medalists, Loyola Academy Security, Dodgers
Losers: Milwaukee, Our collective guts, Brewers
