Dr. John Scharffenberg is a 100-year-old nutrition professor at Loma Linda University in California. Born in Shanghai in 1923, he graduated from Loma Linda’s School of Medicine in 1948 and Harvard’s School of Public Health in 1956. He’s been a professor at Loma Linda for 63 years. Engaging in physical activity not only helps to maintain overall health but can also significantly extend life expectancy. For instance, a study published in the journal Circulation found that meeting the minimum physical activity guidelines (150–300 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75–150 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise per week) can reduce the risk of early death by up to 21%. Increasing this amount to two to four times the minimum can further lower the risk by up to 31%​ (Harvard Public Health) 03/22/2025
