Come ride to ULKHC with PEN VELO!

Yep, the first Ultra-Low-Key-Hillclimb kicks off this week with MONTEBELLO and we're doing a team/club ride down to give it a whirl! Leaving from Woodside Town Hall at 8:30am to ride down. There is a not-quite formal "start" at 10am from the Stevens Reservoir parking lot that we should make easily. Let's ride and chat...then smash a bit!

Perfect if you're looking for a great club and team to connect with! We have a slew of cool things going on for 2027 and our usual cast of weekly and monthly events for club and team riders.

Montebello Road is 5 miles and 2000' of elevation - perfect for a Saturday get together...

What did you DO this weekend? Long ride? Short ride? Tear apart your headset to re-grease? Among our adventures....a quick trip up Mt Hamilton in the South Bay. Right around 5,000' of elevation on the day, it's always a challenge, but always a reward to make the summit.

INVITATION!

Come Ride With Us! We have an ENDURANCE TEAM RIDE on Saturday, Sept 19th and you're invited! Starting at 8:30am from the Woodside Town Hall, we'll head south on a leisurely path meant to enjoy a beautiful nearly-fall day, work on close quarters riding and conversation. Of course there are options for anyone who wants to throw a little smash in as well (Montebello calling your name?).

Coaches Corner - Yet another relevant and useful PODCAST just landed from Coach Matt. This one looks at Exo-Analytics and their new-to-market Carbohydrate uptake measurement test. With everyone bandying about 100-120g/hr etc it's easy to feel like you're missing "the crux"...but the reality is actually KNOWING what your hourly uptake is can have a significant impact on a range of performance parameters. For example, if you only uptake 50-60g/hr but you ingest 100g/hr perhaps gastric distress becomes an issue, or the added heat generated to process that overage of CHO limits capacity? The point of knowing is making effective and useful decisions on how much is actually the right amount. Check it out here:

September 11th has become a day of remembrance in America. There is almost never a "good" day to remember our friends too soon departed, but this date seemed an appropriate moment to pause for our teammates - we will always remember...

Frank Masterson - August 20, 2020
In 2010 Frank and his wife, Janette, began cycling competitively. Frank joined Pen Velo, who became a new part of his family. In 10 years of competitive cycling, Frank made 10 appearances at the Huntsman Senior Games and five at the National Senior Games. He also competed in several NCNCA races, including the Masters District Road Race, the San Bruno Mountain Hillclimb and the Wente Vineyards Road Race. He won 77 medals in Senior Games cycling events, including a gold medal in the 2019 40km road race, which was his proudest cycling achievement. Frank was 69 years old at the time of his passing

Lester Legarda - April 10, 2023
Affectionately known as "Loaf", Lester Legarda was a new convert to cycling, intent on rehabilitating a long term knee injury. His infectious attitude was evident on every ride and he quickly found a community and family with Peninsula Velo. Lester was also a well known skater in the bay area, known by "everyone" in that community as well. Lester was 37 at the time of his passing. A memorial video was produced, it was a hard day and community helped us all get thru

Jorge Delgadillo - March 2, 2015
For more than 25 years Jorge was a regular on California roads and rides. He was new to Pen Velo, but had started to build his community by adding a club to his vast array of friends.
