This was a reply regarding techniques. Things may not happen perfectly but as this response says it is an opening to something else. Do not criticize a technique for not working especially if the ex*****on needs to be taught/learned properly. Remember there is always more than one way to do something. Keep an open mind

"I don’t think stuff like grab arts and punch defense sequences are stupid. Will things ever happen just like that? Almost certainly no. The drills do illuminate options that you may not have thought of on your own. If I execute one technique and the opponent bends forward because of it, several different things may be available. Depending on which option you pick, something else might open up. The movements of the different prearranged sequences are interchangeable though. They just teach you to see how you could potentially continue from one technique to another."
