Fished the Sailfish Marina Big Dog Fat Cat Tournament this Saturday aboard the Miss Michelle Fishing. The day started off as any other day of tournament fishing meeting at the dock at 4:45am to begin loading rods , tackle and bait but that would change quick. Headed the boat out the inlet to a spot a few miles away jamming some good music with a feeling that we would have a great day. Upon arrival we started deploying baits. Everything looked perfect, there was bait everywhere on the surface and we were feeling confident that we would catch a good fish for the day. We joked that it was perfect conditions to catch a big wahoo. At about 7:10am our down rigger went off and the team went to work clearing rods and spinning the boat to go after the fish. We knew we had a good fish on the line but we had no clue what was about to transpire. After a short fight we finally could see the fish straight down below the boat and realized it was in fact a large wahoo but I still don’t think anyone knew quite how big she was. She was still way down but we were able to reach deep with an 8’ gaff and get it in the tail to bring it out from under the boat and get a second gaff in the fish. We immediately hoisted it over the gunnel dropping it in the boat and the boat just erupted with screaming high fives and hugs. Typically we would not start taking pictures and would get right back to work but this was no ordinary fish. No one would say it at the time but inside I think everyone knew all other teams were fishing for second place at that moment. After some photos and some more celebrating we still had the hole day ahead of us so we got back to fishing to try and also put together a good bag for the 5 fish aggregate. We fished through out the day catching several kings with largest being 29 #. Upon lines out we cleaned the boat up and headed to the scale. We headed to the scales weighed our kings first and then it was time to put the big girl on the scale going 88.5 pounds for first place overall and to set the tournament record. We also managed to win the 5 fish aggregate with approximately 175 pounds.

I truly feel blessed to have been a part of this amazing catch and to be able to share this memory with my good friends forever.
