We're so proud to be more than just a gym, UYP is a Community!โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿ’›๐ŸŒŸ
Although Parkour isn't a team sport, our gym is a source of community and genuine friendships for everyone that walks in. Our classes don't put students head-to-head in competition, and instead are built upon support and encouragement. Our students overcome new challenges together, and this fosters meaningful friendships that have a foundation of positive encouragement and growth. It feels like it's be becoming harder for kids and teens to find friends outside of school, so we are grateful every day to know our gyms continue to be a space where everyone can feel welcome, and find positive relationships.
Thank you to all of our students, parents, families, staff and Coaches for making this community possible!๐Ÿ˜

HAPPY BIRTHDAY COACH BRANDON ๐ŸŽ‚ ๐ŸŽ ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Happy Birthday to our South Bay Facility Director, Coach Brandon! We love his humor and goofiness, and he's constantly making kids, parents, and coaches laugh with his silliness and jokes. He's always a fun guy to be around and we're so grateful to have him at our gym!

Thanks for putting in the effort and being a great boss, friend, and coach. Happy Birthday Brandon! Don't get too old!

Own Your Actions๐Ÿ’›
Continuing the focus on our current Word of the Week, Responsibility. When you own your actions you are taking accountability for yourself, and what you do. When we take responsibility, we act with more care and intention, which consequently, leads to actions we can stand by and be proud of. Our students our being taught the impact of Responsibility as a value through their actions in Parkour - understanding that it's up to them to be intentional with their movement. Taking Responsibility for their actions here is crucial to their progression. Coaches guide and teach them, but each student is ultimately the one who decides whether or not they will really apply themselves. They can then take this same understanding out of the gym, and into everything they do.
Thank you to all of our Parents, Students and Coaches for another week of using Parkour to instill powerful character traits!๐Ÿ™‚โ€โ†•๏ธ๐Ÿ’ช

This week's focus in our Flips & Tricks Program is Side-Skills!๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿคธ๐Ÿ’ซ
Here are just a few variations of "Sideways" skills in order of difficulty. Side-Skills are very unique to Parkour/Freerunning, and open up so many possibilities to add to our students understanding and capability in their flips and tricks! We're looking forward to seeing all the great progression from our Flips & Tricks students this week!๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ˜

Itโ€™s Vaults week!๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’ซ
Vaults are such an essential aspect of Parkour; using your hand(s) and/or feet to get over an obstacle. There are countless vault variations, and when vaults are combined with flips you get some very technical and fun Freerunning skills! Vaults are also incredibly useful in speed-competitions because they enable you to pass through courses while maintaining a good pace!๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธโšก๏ธ
Weโ€™re so excited to see the progress our students make in their vaults this week, see you in the gym!๐ŸŒŸ

Word of the Week: Responsibility๐Ÿ™‚โ€โ†•๏ธ๐ŸŒŸ
A great way to understand and embody responsibility is by taking ownership of your actions. This applies heavily to Parkour - you're responsible for your actions, and acting carelessly or without intention in Parkour can be dangerous. Our Coaches emphasize this in class. Our students are taught to be very intentional of their actions in Parkour, but also their interactions with their peers. In the same way that acting carelessly in Parkour can lead to getting hurt, acting carelessly with social interactions can lead to someone else getting hurt. We feel that responsibility is a foundational part of success in life as well as in Parkour, which is why it is another one of our 4-core pillars๐Ÿ’ช

Our purpose goes beyond Parkourโ€ฆ
We do more than teach Parkour skills. Our mission is really to change lives, and a big part of that is by using Parkour to teach our students values, lessons and traits that can be applied for the rest of their lives. Parkour brings together the mind and body in such a powerful way, and so the things our students learn through the physical skills really are outward expressions of the mental skills they are picking up. We believe that the nature of Parkour, along with the positive, encouraging, growth-oriented community that our gyms carry, makes our mission possible everyday๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’›
Thank you to all of our Students, Families and Coaches for being a part of our community and our mission! Letโ€™s keep growing together!๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’ซ

How Does Parkour Build inner strength?๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸŒŸ
Yes, progression in Parkour is achieved through learning and improving upon physical skills and techniques, but learning these physical skills requires mental skills, such as Confidence, Growth-Mindset, Perseverance, and Resilience.
There are so many ways in which Parkour builds inner strength, because your mindset is such a huge part of the learning process. As our students progress in Parkour, they are also gaining a powerful mindset; understanding how to overcome challenges.๐Ÿ™‚โ€โ†•๏ธ๐Ÿ’ซ

Adaptability; Expect Change, Adapt, then Move Forward๐Ÿ™‚โ€โ†•๏ธ๐Ÿ’ซ
Change is constant, in life and in Parkour. Changes are not always in our control, but we ARE in control of how we react to them! Being prepared for unexpected changes is an amazing trait to carry, and Parkour trains our students to embrace the need to adapt. The challenges in our classes often require our students to apply their abilities to varying obstacles, heights, distances, etc. They understand that the ability to adapt to any given circumstance or challenge is a key to progressing, and we believe that's just as true in everyday life as well!๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿš€
