K9 Companion Dog Training

Hello, all. I have relocated to the outer banks of North Carolina for the winter to work on a major project here and will be unavailable for local area training until probably April. That said, if you're snow-birding down here and need some assistance with your furry family member, please feel free to reach out - I will still have some limited availability to work with clients here, and I always have the desire to make new dog friends and keep their humans happy with them.

Now that everyone in our household is vaccinated for Covid and state numbers are down, we will be resuming our regular, in-home training appointments with clients.

Remember we do in ONE lesson what our competition does in three (or more!), and we teach you what you need to know to engage your own dog in happy, willing obedience behaviors and well-adjusted home life. Just one visit teaches your dog (and you) all of the basics of obedience, plus why they do the things they do and how you can encourage them to seek out opportunities to please you.

We believe in happy, engaged dogs, who get to keep their own opinions and spirit, but who know when to listen and how to be a good member of your family. Because our dogs are family, too.

"Dominance" style training doesn't earn dogs' respect or trust.

Our retired K9, Honor, is still fighting malignant melanoma. He had two surgeries in 2019 to remove the mass and get clear margins, but faces a lifetime of melanoma vaccines and oncology appointments. Honor just turned 6 years old on December 4 and is still young, and he worked tirelessly day and night to take drugs off the street and to find lost children and fleeing criminals.

Not all training is the same.

If you're adopting a new shelter dog or puppy, you need a lot of information, fast. But too many trainers want to sell you a "package," and each lesson might cover just one or two obedience skills.

Our new puppy/dog lesson is your own "mini seminar" in what your dog is thinking, how he learns, what she needs to know to succeed - and how YOU can set yourself up for the best success possible. ONE lesson gives you the basics. It's long - usually two hours or more - but is one lesson as opposed to the "package" of lessons you might be quoted elsewhere. A second lesson, if you want or need it, refines your dog's skills and your ability to communicate with them.

You don't have to buy a series of lessons to have a good dog, and the best training trains YOU. Because real training doesn't happen with your trainer's hands on your dog. It happens when you learn how to do it yourself, in the little interactions that happen between your family and your new addition, day after day.

If you want a good dog, it's not going to happen in a big class. It's going to happen when you and your dog know what to expect and how to listen to each other, day after day. Best to start off right, as soon as you bring your new furry family member home, not after the behaviors are established and you're all mad at each other.
