As promised, now we move into cans that are made to work WITH installed muzzle devices, rather than needing to work INSTEAD of them. This is obviously going to be a very big benefit and attractive proposition for someone who wants to shoot a r***e both with and without a can, regularly, or perhaps wants to have one can that works with multiple guns; while one weapon has the silencer, the others still have a functioning muzzle device with a purpose, rather than being in a state of “waiting for the can.”
This is going to apply more to AR’s and other fighting / sporting / competition style r***es, but the principle is universal. So in the example we have a Sugar Weasel, manufactured by Q, who are known for their innovative, forward thinking designs. Almost everyone has heard of the Honey Badger, and many companies look to recreate it.
So this Q Sugar Weasel has a Q Cherry Bomb compensator installed at the end of the barrel; this helps felt recoil and muzzle rise, which the AR platform is already low on.
Enter the THUNDER CHICKEN. A full-sized, high backpressure can that is 100% geared towards performance. It threads right over the Q-branded compensator, and works immediately. Comes off the same way. What’s very cool as well, is that the compensator keeps on compensating when it’s inside the silencer; so your muzzle device really does have an important role to play in considering a silencer.
Now this example is Q-centric, and uses Q’s ecosystem. Many of the silencers now are switching to an agreed upon universal thread pitch, and it’s often referred to as “HUB,”’as in that’s a HUB can, or that’s HUB-compatible. Your non-HUB stuff can almost guaranteed be made compatible with HUB, which is very helpful because it’s becoming quite the prolific system.
In fact, just like how the Q muzzle device works for Q cans? There are several companies who have the same style of proprietary devices, so you’re invested in their ecosystem if you want to use their stuff.
The final example coming up next is my absolute favorite style of cans and adapters, and if you’re into this stuff? You’ll probably find something interesting in both this and the next upload!
