Happy Saturday, POKR community!

We are delighted to share that we have secured a date, time, and place for POKR 2027! Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 20, 2027, from 9 AM to 4 PM. We will be returning to the Church of the Nazarene (4647 Sidney Rd. SW, Port Orchard, WA) for an amazing day of fun with fellow fiber friends.

We had such great feedback about the workshops and spinning circle that we are bringing them back in 2027. All of our favorites will remain: stash reduction sales, the Heifer International shawl raffle, and fabulous door prizes.

Registration information will be going out in January. We just wanted to be sure you got the date on your calendar.

Our fellow retreater Irene Weber is going to be teaching this amazing class on finger loop braiding at the Arbutus Folk School in Olympia next month! I’ve taken this class from Irene - it’s wonderful and I highly recommend it!! Details about the class are in the link:

In this workshop, we'll learn about loop-manipulated braiding, a technique to make laces, straps, and bands that can be used in a variety of ways. We'll talk about the history of this technique, what it was used for in the past, as well as how it can be incorporated into your craft projects today...

In keeping with sharing things of general yarny interest: Another LYS (and other fiber finds) has joined the mix here in Kitsap County! Callow Fibers opened its doors last Saturday and it is definitely worth a visit!! 🧶🧶

(The weaving cotton had me at hello 😂😂😂)

Hello POKR community! From time to time here on the POKR retreat page, we will be posting knitterly related things that we think will be of general interest.

Coming up this Saturday, April 11, is the sixth annual Knit for Food knit-a-thon. Knit for Food is a 12-hour knitting marathon to raise funds for hunger and food insecurity. 100% of all donations will be divided equally between Feeding America, World Central Kitchen, No Kid Hungry, and Meals on Wheels. An update on our POKR shawl raffles: the final tally was a total of $270 for the benefit of Heifer International and Firwood Farm Alpacas & Rescue! Here's another look at the lovely shawls ❤️🩶❤️🩶 Congratulations again to Boni Russell (the winner of the red shawl raffle) and Kathi Gose (the winner of the gray shawl raffle)!

The red shawl was knit by the talented Ruth Ann Hanks - the pattern is the Kyler Shawl by Isabel Kraemer and knit with Elmer Tweed from The Lamb & Kid. The gray shawl was gifted to POKR by Doris Martin and the pattern is a lovely mystery ❤️🩶❤️🩶
