Importance of Cardio Training during weight loss journey. The simple equation to weight loss begins with calories. Calories in versus calories out. However many calories you consume in a day CAN create MORE scale weight to your body simply because you are storing those calories in your body during the digestive process. Now these calories hold weight to them, and this is generally why macronutrients are tracked in grams. Grams show the overall weight or mass of foods that have been consumed, and the most important components to those calories and grams are the macronutrients; proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. When any of these macros are consumed in excess, it can lead to a plethora of negative outcomes on the body, but what the focus here is simply the scale weight. Overweight versus in shape and how cardio training can aid in the process of weight loss.
We have all heard, in one form or another, that it is important to stay active, be more active, spend less time in front of the TV, or video games, or behind the desk at work. I know, MAJOR eye rolls. AND many alternatives have been introduced to these scenarios, such as standing desks, stability ball chairs, posture braces, proper chairs and so on. Yet still the overwhelming majority of the population struggle to stay active consistently as well as lose or keep off unwanted, stubborn belly fat. Well here is a solution and it involves adding fitness to your daily habits, because contrary to popular belief, having fitness in your life, throughout your life (along with a healthy balanced diet), can increase the longevity of your life, WHOA… MIND BLOWING!
Now let’s talk cardio. Cardiorespiratory performance is necessary to sustain life. If your heart ain’t beating, you ain’t breathing…unless you’re Dick Cheney, or somehow an immortal among us. And if heart rate training is not done, it can leave a person more prone and susceptible to risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and so much more. So here we find ourselves back at the starting point talking about the simple equation of calories in versus calories out and its effects in the weight loss process. When a consistent trend of calories in to calories out, or burned off through physical activity, is higher then there will be a consistent trend in weight gain. This is because all calories consumed each day remain dormant and are stored away because they have not been utilized to sustain or build muscle mass or been used as energy. When it is stored it becomes fat and builds up over time causing people to become overweight or obese.
It is important to know that there are many factors that also lead to weight gain and obesity because the relationship is pertinent to the types of calories being consumed. If it is all processed foods, fast foods, foods that are buried in trans and saturated fats with high fructose corn syrup and all the other non-essential parts of the “food chain” it will be, A. WAY more difficult to get rid of the fat, and B. Can cause much more serious life threatening or shortening diseases. We can get more into this but that is a topic for another time when the main topic is more centrally focused around the macronutrients of our diets.
Cardiorespiratory training is important in the weight loss process because it burns calories. However this shouldn’t just be thought of as running, or jogging to get rid of last night’s pizza binge. There are so many great alternatives to just running that can be used for cardio training. Gyms these days have so many great options for cardio training; Spin cycles, stair trainers, ellipticals, treadmills, pools, erg machines (Rower and Skierg) not to mention HIIT training. Many gyms also provide group classes such as Zumba, Circuit training, water aerobics, spin & soul cycle classes, and so much more. Take advantage of these forms of cardio and make it FUN TO BURN! Cardio training also has tremendous health benefits because the heart is being exercised, decreasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases, and helping with oxygen and blood flow regulation within the body. And again these types of training on a weekly basis can aid in the weight loss process because they help us burn calories, which will turn the calories in to calories out in our favor of MORE out than in. As a consistent trend of this activity is achieved (along with extraneous activity and/or weight training) a consistent trend of weight loss will follow.
