McDaniel Youth Baseball
McDaniel Youth Baseball is a 13U-14U baseball program focused on player development to help players prepare for the next level.
This spring we look to add more McDaniel-bound players as we continue building a solid feeder program.

Congratulations to our Senior American players, coaches, and parents for their victory in the CCJBA county tournament! They were only behind for one inning in 4 games and really showed their commitment to the game and each other. They’re even better people than they are players.
Their performance this weekend bodes well for next weekend’s state tournament to be held in Banks starting Friday. Proud we are of all them.

MYB 2025 fall ball registration starts on Monday (7/7/2025). We’ll have spots for everyone (assuming we have enough coaching) just moving up to the big field all the way to veteran incoming freshman, and they’ll play at their optimum level. Fall ball is open to all players, regardless of high school boundary, unlike spring. Our training partner Elite Training NW will also off an academy style training sessions, separate from the fall games. Go Mountain Lions!

Fall ball update.
1. Yes, we will have it.
2. Fall ball doesn’t have the same boundaries that apply in the spring and you can play anywhere, but understand MYB does share a boundary with the high school.
3. If you’re living in the McDaniel HS boundary, we are going to offer a lot of year-round training opportunities to participate in.
4. If you’d like to be included in all our communications, please email us at [email protected].
5. If you want to see us play in the JBO postseason (2025 spring season), the county tournament is 7/12-13 at Nelson HS and (hopefully) the state tournament will be at Banks HS 7/19-20.
6. Enjoy your summer but get in touch.

Hi all. Here’s a link to our annual fundraiser in case you need another avenue for your tax deductible giving. It helps us keep giving our ball players the same training and experience as more traditionally successful boundaries. Our board and players appreciate your consideration.

The first week of fall ball is in the books. Our Navy team ran out of time on our comeback earlier today in Putnam (13-16) and our Columbia team walked it off 7-5 in the night game. A beautiful night for baseball. It’s always great to get that first one out of the way.
Greetings from the tail end of fall ball registration. I believe we got an email into most every player’s parents’ inbox in the boundary this time. Not everyone responded, but I hope they at least got the invite. I personally want to thank the presidents of Parkside Little League, HRCLL, WRLL, and Taborvilla LL for all the cooperation in helping us reach out to everyone. It was really helpful and we hope to cultivate those relationships further and be a partner and a resource for all of them as we grow.
We’re coming off a decent year that saw our Senior National team have an excellent regular season and win a game at the county tournament, while showing their grit all the way to the end. We’re very proud of those players and coaches and we expect great things from them next year. Then at the end of the season, we hosted the Senior National state championship at McDaniel HS (7/19-7/21). We want to thank all the amazing volunteers, parents, and high school players that pitched in and made it work. We certainly learned a lot and are encouraged enough to maybe try it again someday. We also sent several players on to high school ready to compete for a spot in the program.
We’re also in a better position now to offer volunteer opportunities for community members. Everything from organizing a new nonprofit to scorekeeping to coaching on the field to taking a board position is needed here. Since these ventures traditionally live and die with parents passing through, we’re really emphasizing community outreach to find baseball lovers that will sustain us through the two year cycles of players’ parents involvement. There’s a couple of us already here for the near term and would love some company. Please reach out to [email protected] if any of this interests you.
Anyway, we hope to do more posting as a way of keeping you all updated. But rest assured we’ll be training these players to excel in life and on the baseball field. Go Mountain Lions!

Update to MYB
Hello McDaniel Youth Baseball families-
This is Jeff Smalley writing to update you on a few things as we prepare for our spring season and everything that leads up to it.
First, I want to start a communication chain that we can build from and communicate before we get fully involved in GameChanger for the spring. The goal will be keep families updated during our January and February workouts, tryouts and team placement. I’ll be meeting with Mike Evans soon to get the master list together and get this started. I suppose you seeing this lets you know it’s underway. In the meantime, feel free to contact me directly at [email protected] or 503-282-2023.
Next, it appears the hitting barn will be open in early January and I’ve secured 2 nights per week (Thursday for sure, and likely Monday) our sessions will be 6-8pm. The facilities will offer 3 tunnels with a pitching machine and mounds for bullpen sessions. Also, by pulling back the nets, we can get into fielding drills and such. I’d really like to show strong numbers and set a high standard for training. Let’s get in there and establish a strong baseball culture and get these players ready to compete this spring and beyond.
Then along the lines of creating a sustainable organization, I’d also love to recruit more parents and community members to join McDaniel Youth Baseball in different roles. First and most immediate would be coaches (not necessarily dads or even parents) but equally important would be board members and other roles that support these players on their baseball journey. I’ve spent the last several years in and around Grant Youth Baseball and I’d like to bring some of what I experienced there to this situation. I saw continuity as their major strength organizationally and I’ll be working to create that here. Please join us in that goal.
Appropriate schedule:
Mondays and Thursdays in January (6-8pm) in the barn and on the field when weather permits.
Mondays and Thursdays will continue in February but we’ll be adding Sunday academy-style practices to prepare for tryouts.
Preliminary tryout date is 2/25/24.
Team selection and jersey orders by 3/1/24.
Preseason tournaments, scrimmages, pickup games, and practices in March.
JBO schedule starts in early to mid April and we’ll compete in 3-4 in-season JBO tournaments.
Finally, after learning some hard lessons last year, I want families to know that JBO postseason tournaments (county and state) run from late June - mid July. It will be important for us to consider this when scheduling time out of town. I learned last year that you can’t play in these tournaments if too many of your players are unavailable for them, but we’ll talk more about that throughout the winter and spring.
Overall, I’m very excited to get in the barn and get these players back in the groove and hit the ground running in the spring. I’m also excited to see you all again and meet those of you I haven’t yet.
