â¨Fundamentals and Flow of Capoeiraâ¨
This two-hour, all-levels workshop explores the essential elements of capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian art fusing martial arts, movement, rhythm, music, and cultural tradition. Participants will learn foundational footwork, kicks, escapes, and the basics of capoeira musicâenough to begin engaging in capoeira together. From there, weâll focus on developing fluidity: using balance, body-weight control, and momentum to link movements into the seamless flow that capoeira is so renowed for. The workshop is designed for brand-new participants and is equally rewarding for those with backgrounds in capoeira or other movement arts.
Teacher bio:

â¨Acro Dance Artistry w/ Kenny Frechette
April 25th, 2:00pm- 4:00pm
$50
What is Acro Dance Artistry?
âFor me this title means taking solo acrobatic movements (like handstands and cartwheels) and incorporating them into how I move intuitively and/or expressively (aka how I dance). Rather than rote ex*****on of mechanical forms I explore how these moves can be played with to find interesting variations and how I can make them feel more organic in the moment-to-moment of my personal dancing.
Iâd say artistry means a few things to me: (1) Using creative cue-ing and play-oriented tasks as I train (2) Cultivating the ability to improvise, adapt, and transition between moves (3) Finding clarity in ex*****on and being able to layer performance (of a quality, a character, myself, whatever else) into my movement.â
