Dodgeball days at Stonecoast = beautiful chaos, laughter, and kids giving it their all 😄

No one’s really keeping score… it’s just about dodging, throwing, teaming up with your friends, and somehow ending up on the floor laughing.

These are the moments they’ll remember - running around, a little wild, a little competitive, and completely in it.

Stop by after school to try a free class, come on your own or bring someone along.

Zigzag Hops

This one looks simple, but it’s a favorite.

The kids jump from hoop to hoop with both feet, working to stay steady and in control. When it turns into wild jumping (which it always tries to 😄), we slow it back down and find that rhythm again.

That’s really the whole point.

They’re learning how to notice when they’re rushing… and how to bring themselves back.

It builds balance, coordination, and strong movement but more than that, it helps them feel in control of their bodies instead of all over the place.

We’ll take slow and steady over fast every time. 💪🏽

It takes a special kind of coach to work with the youngest athletes. The patience, the calm tone, the way he slows things down and meets his young athletes at their level truly matters. The kids definitely feel it. They’re more at ease, more willing to try and are way more confident in themselves.

That steady guidance from our coach Kory goes beyond just learning moves, it’s helping shape how they handle challenges, how they show up, how they keep going even when something feels hard. This steady and consistent kind of impact sticks with them far beyond the mats.

🔻New students are always welcome, come on your own or bring a friend along.

Just a reminder that Stripe & Belt Testing will take place on Saturday, March 21st.

After testing, we’ll be hosting a Super Fun Family Class, and everyone is encouraged to come — even if your athlete is not testing. It’s always a great opportunity for parents and siblings to jump on the mats, try some Jiu Jitsu, and share the experience together.

We’re also happy to welcome anyone who’s curious about training - you’re welcome to come try a free class and see what Stonecoast is all about.

We’re looking forward to another great week of training. Thank you for being part of the Stonecoast community.

See you on the mats! 🥋

Stonecoast Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was the first kids-only Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school in Maine - a distinction that set it apart from traditional academies that simply added youth classes to adult programs.

From the beginning, the school was intentionally designed around children. The curriculum, structure, pacing, and expectations were all built specifically for young athletes and not adapted just as an afterthought.

At the center of it is the owner, whose vision shaped the foundation of the school. With years of experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and youth coaching, he recognized that kids thrive when training is structured, consistent, and purpose-driven. Rather than chasing trends or competition accolades alone, he built the program around long-term development.

His approach emphasizes:
• Technical precision from the start
• Discipline before motivation
• Clear standards and accountability
• Confidence earned through consistent effort
• Leadership and respect as non-negotiables

Professor Durfee is known for holding students to a high standard while remaining deeply invested in their growth, not just as athletes, but as young people. Parents often note the transformation they see: improved focus, better listening skills, stronger posture, and increased self-confidence.

By creating Maine’s first dedicated kids-only BJJ school, professor Durfee didn’t just open a gym, he established a training environment where youth development is the priority.

That original philosophy continues to guide the school today: structured, disciplined, and built to shape capable, resilient kids on and off the mat.

Motivation gets you started.
Discipline keeps you showing up.

These two didn’t wake up every day feeling like training.
They showed up anyway.

That’s the difference. 🔥

You train six days a week and still ask your parents to stay “just 10 more minutes.”

Belts were earned, but what we really saw was patience, grit, and people lifting each other up.

Every stripe, every promotion reflects hours of work and a room full of teammates who show up, encourage, and believe in one another.

Proud of this community and the way we grow together, on and off the mats. 🥋
