BALLET FOUNDATIONS | THE BARRE

The barre is an essential part of ballet training, providing support as dancers develop the strength and coordination needed to execute movements independently in the center and, eventually, onstage. From establishing proper alignment to strengthening the legs and feet, each exercise practiced at the barre serves a specific purpose.

Follow along as we explore these foundational exercises and their role in a dancer’s training.

Community Ballet returns October 7!

Community Ballet is a free group class for children ages 7-12. and have partnered to provide free beginner-level ballet classes to children in need in the Greater Portland area. Classes incorporate technique, stretching, musicality, and choreography.

PSB's Junior Division helps students ages 7-11 built the strength and understanding necessary for long-term success as both a dancer and well-rounded individual through weekly ballet classes. In addition, performing and learning how to perform are a big part of ballet education! All Junior Division dancers have the option to participate in Portland Ballet’s a Victorian Nutcracker, Building Ballets, and the Year End Showcase.
