North Portland Danzan Ryu Jujitsu We train in Danzan-Ryu Jujitsu.Classes Wednesdays and Friday from 7:30 to 9pm at the Peninsula Odd Fellows Lodge on North Lombard.

Our school teaches Danzan-Ryu Jujitsu, a system of jujitsu developed in Hawaii in the early 1900s. We strive to be a welcoming place for everyone who wishes to better themselves through the study of the martial arts, and we do not discriminate based on race, gender, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity (including gender expression), sexual orientation, or disability. Our dojo operates on the ideals of Kokua and Jita-Kyoei, or extending help without selfish intent for mutual welfare and benefit.

Yesterday, Sunday, 9/13/26, we closed out our 9th and final weekend of Seifukujitsu training of the year together as a group with Professor Hudson and the esteemed Sensei Dan Linder. It was bittersweet knowing that it will be some time before we all come together again next year. Over this past year, we studied, engaged in hands-on training, challenged ourselves, and learned a great deal—not only about the art itself, but about what it means to carry this torch forward into the future. Grateful for the time, the lessons, the camaraderie, and the journey we’ve shared together. Until we meet again. 🥋

A promotion like this is never earned alone. On Wednesday night, we celebrated Serge‘s promotion to Nikyu, 2nd degree Brown belt. This milestone reflects his dedication, resilience, and the countless hours he spent training, teaching, and supporting others on the mat. Serge’s journey is a reminder that growth in Danzan Ryu is built through community, through instructors who guide us, training, partners who challenges, and a dojo Ohana that grows stronger together.
