We scrubbed the inside this time. I think she's almost ready for a spring shakedown cruise.
This is the log for the Newport 28 sailboat Coyote Hull.

We scrubbed the inside this time. I think she's almost ready for a spring shakedown cruise.
Evan, Ben, and Chas got out tonite. Started of with strong winds from the NW. Died down a bit as we got near the 205 bridge. Made great time beating back to some lifters. Nice to be out.

Okay. So it's been a while since I updated this page. After a full tune up on the Atomic 4 motor and adjustment of the clutch (which was slipping) we went on a shakedown cruise on Saturday. We are heading out again tonight -- winds look steady out of the north at ~8-10 knots. Should be a nice weekday evening cruise.
Evan, Jen, Ben, and first time sailor - Sam went out last night. It was overcast when we got there at 4p, but finally burned off to a beautiful day. WNW Wind started picking up about then too. Got up to almost 10 knots and we actually made good headway after sailing in place for a while.
Finally figured out how to lower the furling jib. It was as easy as Ben has been telling me. (♪ Don't Fear the Furler ♫) Flaked the sail on the dock and brought it home for some TLC.
Went out with just the Mainsail. Realized again just how jib-powered she is.
Slight mishap with the furler, as it almost went aloft. Lashed the boathook to the whisker pole and snagged that puppy back down. We'll be securing that next time :-)
Finally, we had to run the bilge pump a couple times. Need to get her back to Danish marine for a look see.
Good times on the Columbia!
Evan and Jen got out yesterday. Variable winds from the NW. Made great time and got almost to the 205 bridge on one tack... a barge was coming so we had to jibe over. Made it up as far as East dock of Govt Island. Close hauled home and made it up to 6.9 knots. Ripped the sun cover on the jib :-( We'll have to fix that before going out again, but it's not too bad.
Went out twice yesterday. Skipper Ben and I sailed her out of the channel with just the jib at about 5p. North west winds were fairly steady an we got up to 3.6 knots.
Back to dock to pick up Kevin, Steve, and Capri, and went out again. This time the wind picked up a bit more and we got up to 5.6. Beautiful sunset and just dark when we got back in. Many ci**rs met their end.
Ci**rs and sailing on the Columbia? Yes!
We are going out around 4:30, but are coming back to pick up friends at @ 6-6:30 if you want aboard. PM or text me (get my # from Jennifer if you don't have it.)

Took her out after rehearsal with skipper Ben at the helm. Light airs to start, then a line of squalls (such as they are in PDX) gave us a fair puff. Got up to 6.6 knots. Rounded the 14 marker and headed home.
Learned that our 'colorful' neighbor of 6 years is moving this weekend. His brother the owner of the floating home is fixing it up to sell... Hmmmm....
