Well what can we say? We really thought last year would be the last race without releases. Unfortunately that is not the case. Regardless we’re committed to turning lemons into lemonade once again!

The 31st Annual: “LIKE IT’S 1996”

It’s a whole new world.

The Narrows has been completely reshaped since the storm. The old race lines are gone, but new ones are waiting to be found, and after every good rain the Dries come alive.

So for the 31st Annual Green Race, we’re going back to the beginning.
Back then, nobody was running Go Left, much less Hot Left. There was no Flying Squirrel. Nobody was breaking five minutes let alone four. Racers were still figuring out what was possible.

Now we get to do it all over again!

Last year we had great water midweek, then barely enough to scrape down on race day. This year, we’re not putting everything on one day.

The entire month is your race window starting right NOW!

When the water comes up grab a partner and your POV camera and get your run.

We'll have three different courses: Race the Dries. Race the Short Course (last year's course). Race the legendary Green Race course for a chance at $1000 cash prize!

Film it. Submit it. (Free to race but be sure your submitted race runs aren’t published anywhere online to be accepted)

Then on Saturday, November 7, we’re bringing everyone together at the first-ever competition on Taylor’s Wave in Woodfin NC. The Green Race Rodeo!

Think the every man’s challenge Gigantic Mass Start Race, Jam Session Freestyle Competition, Colossal Loop Contest and water level permitting, a Long Boat Attainment Race. There is something for everybody, regardless of skill level. This amazing new feature deserves celebrating and we're here to christen it!

After the rodeo, we’ll announce the 2026 Green Race winners and play all of the submitted race-run videos. All the deets on our website.

While we wait for dependable releases to return to the Green, we’re going back to what this thing was built on: Racing. New lines. Good friends. And figuring out what is possible. Just LIKE IT’S 1996.

Troy and Hugh Hague. Troy and I were reminiscing about the time I was a bow paddler for him and we did the California Salmon Nordheimer run at 8 feet as part of my first guide camp with them! If in your experiences as a guide who desires to become better or even elite in the most difficult circumstances. ie 4-5 commercial whitewater. A role
model presents. A prototype of how good it is possible to be without a strong crew, just knowing the best lines and how the boat will react, every day, calm, calculated, omniscient on the water. Ron Altig was that man for me. Noahs River Adventures - Ashland, Oregon
