Sometimes you don’t realize how much your life has changed until you see it in photographs.

Aurora was there before I ever had a studio.

She was there when I was pregnant with her, practicing yoga with my growing belly.

She was there when I completed my yoga teacher training during COVID, nursing her during Zoom classes and trying to teach while she cried in the background.

She was there when I started saying yes before I felt ready.

My first teaching job. Collaborations. Farmers market yoga. The opportunities I almost talked myself out of because I wondered whether I was qualified enough.

And somehow, those little yeses kept becoming the next thing.

Now she’s nearly seven.

She’s been in the studio while I painted walls, moved things around, and slowly built this place piece by piece.

Now she wanders through Mama, Move like she has a very important position on staff 😂 helping parents find things, checking on the kids, making her way around the room, and still climbing all over me whenever she gets the chance.

Looking at these photos, I keep thinking about how much we’ve both grown.

My strength has changed as she’s grown. I’ve had to adapt to a body that carried her, held her, chased her, lifted her, and kept up with her.

But strength, for me, has become so much more than what my body can do.

It’s adaptation. It’s letting life change you without becoming so rigid that you break. It’s saying yes before you feel ready. It’s taking the next step when you can’t see the whole staircase yet.

And sometimes it’s looking around and thinking, holy s**t. I can’t believe we’re really doing this.

This life wasn’t something I could always see from where I started.

I grew up in poverty. There were plenty of reasons to believe certain things weren’t meant for me.

But I kept taking the first step. Then another. And another.

Now I get to build a life around work I genuinely care about, while Aurora gets to watch me learn, change, stumble, try again, and create something that matters to me.

I spent so much of my life learning that hard things aren’t permanent.

Now I get to raise a little girl who gets to learn that by watching me live it. ❤️

I’ve been thinking about how much I love teaching classes where people start to realize, “Ohhh. THAT’S what I’m supposed to feel.”

That little lightbulb moment is one of my favorite parts of teaching.

Maybe you’ve been doing a movement for years and nobody has ever explained what you’re actually looking for. Maybe you’ve gotten really good at following cues without ever feeling like you understand your own body. Maybe you just want to come into class, move for an hour, listen to good music, and enjoy being there.

That’s the space I want to create.

Saturday’s Move & Sculpt will give us a little more time to play with strength, mobility, balance, and core work, with plenty of attention to the details that help the movement make sense.

Then Sunday we’re putting on the records for Vinyls & Vinyasa. 🥹

I genuinely love this class because the music changes everything. You never quite know what song is going to come on next, and suddenly you’re moving through a familiar sequence to a song you haven’t heard in forever.

So if you’ve been meaning to come try a class, this weekend would be a pretty good time.

I’d love to have you there. ❤️‍🔥

There’s a cost to the life you’re trying to build, and sometimes that cost is being willing to recognize where you’re still getting in your own way.

Growth asks for more than effort. It asks for enough honesty to notice the patterns that keep pulling you back toward the habits that keep you stuck, even when you genuinely want things to change.

Because you can work incredibly hard for a new life and still keep repeating the old habits that are holding you back from it.

I really love the woman I’ve become since becoming a mom.

There’s a version of me from before Aurora who genuinely thought she was strong. And she was. She just had absolutely no idea what she was capable of yet.

Postpartum me has had to learn how to work with a body that changed, a life that changed, and a capacity that changed right along with it.

I’ve had to adjust. Start over. Take things slower. Push when I had more to give. Pull back when I needed to. Figure out how to keep moving forward when life looked completely different than I expected.

And somewhere in all of that, I became a hell of a lot stronger.

That’s the kind of strength I want for the women I work with.

Not chasing the body or the abilities you had in another chapter. Not trying to prove that you can keep up with the woman you used to be.

Building a relationship with yourself that makes you think, holy s**t, look what I can do now.

Because there’s a version of you on the other side of this season who is going to absolutely steamroll the woman you are today. 😅

And I think she’s worth meeting.

You want to feel stronger in your body, more comfortable in your movement, and more confident knowing what your body needs from you.

That can be harder to find than it sounds.

A lot of us have spent years learning movement by following along. Someone demonstrates the exercise or pose, you try to make your body look like theirs, and you keep going until the class is over. There’s value in being guided. There’s value in having someone teach you what to do. I love that part of teaching.

What I care deeply about is helping you understand what you’re doing while you’re doing it.

Why are we moving this way? What are we trying to create? What should you actually be feeling? What changes when you shift your stance, reduce the range, add support, or choose a little more challenge?

Those details matter because your body is going to feel different from day to day. Your strength will change. Your energy will change. Your experience of a movement will change. You deserve the tools to respond to those changes rather than feeling like there is one correct version of your body that you’re supposed to recreate every time you walk into a class.

That’s what I want you to take with you when you leave my classes: a deeper understanding of your own body and the confidence to make choices for yourself.

Tomorrow’s classes are ready when you are. Come move with me, learn a little more about your body, and leave with tools you can carry into the rest of your life. 🫶🏼
