Our practice keeps us steady on the path…
Some of you know the significance of 13 Turtles to Santosha Yoga and to Janie Ganga. For the Ancients, Turtles were considered keepers of wisdom with their 13 sections of shell in sync with the 13 Moons of the year.
We’re taking it as a good sign that we spotted this Eastern Box Turtle (thanks for identifying!) as we get ready for our Santosha Solstice Yoga & Meditation Retreat!!! Live and IN PERSON in this beautiful Yurt in a scenic section of Rhode Island, west of Providence, near apple orchards and lots of trees.
This Saturday June 20th
10am-4pm Retreat with Yoga, Lunch, Meditation
7-9pm Kirtan chanting with Jagdish

Sometimes the second Yoga Sutra is translated as yoga is the “cessation of thoughts” or that you need to achieve a complete “stilling” of the mind for it to count as yoga.
But if you’ve ever tried to meditate (or even just sit on your mat quietly), you might notice that it’s really hard to get the thoughts to stop completely – and even if the mind-stuff does pause, another thought eventually pops in.
In the understanding of this Sutra in I AM Yoga, we use a much more immediate interpretation – that every time we WITNESS the mental modifications (mind-stuff), that itself is the practice of yoga.
I invite you to join me (Janie Ganga) for my monthly event Wisdom & Chill at Santosha Yoga – live via Zoom. This class combines Wisdom (Sutra 1.2) and Chill (yoga nidra). I use the Translation and Commentary of The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali by Sri Swami Satchidananda as a starting point. I’ll share insights from my teachers in the I AM Yoga (Integrative Amrit Method of Yoga) tradition and my own lived experiences. And then I’ll facilitate an interactive conversation with the group about how we might apply this Sutra in everyday life.
For the second half of the class, you’ll lay down and get comfy for I AM Yoga Nidra – a fully-guided meditation for an integrative experience of NOW.

Sometimes the first Yoga Sutra is considered just an intro, almost like the cover page to a book: now the explanation of yoga begins. But it can also be interpreted as the main instruction – you are practicing yoga (union) when you are present here and now.
On the surface, that sounds so simple, right?
But it doesn’t necessarily feel easy in real life to remain connected to NOW. Since most of us have spent decades training our minds to pay attention to the past & the future, it is a practice to ask the mind to stay connected to NOW.
I invite you to join me (Janie Ganga) for my monthly event Wisdom & Chill at Santosha Yoga – live via Zoom. This class combines Wisdom (Sutra 1.1) and Chill (yoga nidra). I use the Translation and Commentary of The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali by Sri Swami Satchidananda as a starting point. I’ll share insights from my teachers in the I AM Yoga (Integrative Amrit Method of Yoga) tradition and my own lived experiences. An evening to gather as a Sangha (community) on the Path of Love. Swami Kripalu (1913-1981) told us that he was a Pilgrim of Love on the Path of Love and his Teachings have inspired SO MANY yoga teachers and practitioners.
We’ll honor his teachings PLUS reflections and stories from teachers who were part of the Kripalu Ashram years. We hope that the many generations of Ashrams may be able to come together to honor all they have discovered for themselves and shared with all of us – through the practices of Yoga, Meditation, Let Your Yoga Dance, Pranayama, and more.
How Swami Kripalu’s teachings have inspired us.
A meditation given to us by Swami Kripalu as his “gift to the West.”
Hearing about the Ashram Years and how the communities & practices from those times have helped to deepen our practices.
Cost:
Free - Santosha Members & Staff and anyone with limited finances
$13 - to support your own attendance
$26 - suggested, if you are able to support both your own attendance and 1 more
