Allain Mental Performance M.A. Sport Psychology, McGill University
Certified Mental Coach, Peak Performance Sports Allain Mental Performance LLC was founded by Julia Allain. With a B.A.

in psychology from Providence College and a M.A. in sport psychology from McGill University, Julia has always been innately curious about human motivation and performance. In graduate school, she completed a master’s thesis Allain copyanalyzing NCAA division I hockey coaches and their in-game communication, motivation, and management strategies. Furthermore, throughout her program she explored leadership, athlete roles, psychological momentum, and a wide variety of sport specific psychological skills. Since graduate school, Julia has been able to apply this research knowledge in many different roles with experience as a teacher, coach, consultant, and performance vision specialist. Her various opportunities have opened her eyes to the importance of psychological skills for athletes as they continue to develop and prepare for the next level. While most coaches place a great emphasis on physical preparation, these frequently overlooked psychological skills are often the difference maker in pressure situations.

I had every intention of creating a really aesthetically cool post about mindfulness and the ocean to reflect on my off season. But I have far too many conversations with athletes about the dangers of a highlight reel to post one cool video and ignore the process of failure and frustration that led to it. So please swipe all the way to see what the experience required to shift from a red mind into a blue mind actually looks like. I hope you enjoy this video evidence as to why my whole body is bruised and scraped (a video to which no one has laughed harder at than my own mother).

Sometimes we just need a different point of view… Even though it feels like this whole season has been on the road, it’s made for some pretty nice views. Nothing like a couple thousand feet in the air and a shift in perspective 🛫

“…but there is one consistent truth, and that is that the game can suck. It can test you, challenge you, and let you down. And no matter how many rules or referees you have, sometimes it just doesn’t seem fair. Sometimes you’ll do everything you can, and you’ll still lose. Sometimes you watch someone else win your trophy, score your goal, and steal your dream. But the worst thing? The worst is when we take ourselves out of our own game simply because it isn’t going how we wanted or expected it to.”

Posting so I can consider this sweatshirt purchase a business expense… But while we are here, just a quick reminder that optimism isn’t thinking everything is great all the time or not seeing the obstacles or challenges in your way. Things can suck. Things can be hard. But those things don’t have to be where you end your thought. True optimism is acknowledging that reality and, despite the negatives, it is believing in your ability to get through it and be better because of it. It doesn’t mean it will be easy, but that’s ok because you can do hard things✨
