HUNTERS — LET’S LEAVE IT BETTER THAN WE FOUND IT. 🦌🦃🕊️ 🐗
I saw a post today that really struck a chord with me.
We go to the field because we love the outdoors. We love the birds flying, the sunrise coming up over the horizon, the dogs working, the smell of gunpowder, and most of all, the memories we make with our friends and family.
But with the privilege of hunting comes a responsibility.
Pick up your shells. Pick up your water bottles. Pick up your cans, ammo boxes, food wrappers, and anything else you brought into the field. And if you see somebody else’s trash, pick that up too.
It only takes a few seconds to pick up an empty shell when you fire it. But when hundreds of hunters leave a few behind, it doesn’t take long for a beautiful hunting property to become littered with trash.
Being a hunter is about much more than pulling the trigger.
We are stewards of the land, the wildlife, and the hunting heritage that has been entrusted to us.
Many of us are blessed to hunt property that belongs to someone else. A farmer or rancher has given us permission to enjoy something they work all year to maintain. The least we can do is respect their property and leave it as good—or better—than we found it.
At Texas 4S, this is something we believe strongly.
When the hunt is over and the trucks pull away, we want the landowner to be glad we were there. We want our children and grandchildren to have the same opportunities we’ve enjoyed. And we want non-hunters who encounter the places we’ve hunted to see sportsmen who respect the outdoors.
Pack it in. Pack it out. Pick up your shells. Leave the field cleaner than you found it.
Because the future of hunting isn’t determined only by what happens when we pull the trigger.
It’s also determined by what we leave behind when we drive away.
