It's unfortunate that we are temporarily suspending this but we have had 4 VIP clients call for a VIP Hind day. Three last year and one this year. As a result, 2 were very happy with their experience and 2 were not. Obviously we cannot make everyone happy but this program was designed to create a more enjoyable hunting experience and if it is not doing so, we need to reevaluate the program. Stay Tuned...

One Stand Cannot Hunt Every Wind

A productive location may need more than one stand.

As we collect camera information and study deer movement, we look for ways to hunt an area under different wind conditions. That may mean placing one stand on the north side and another on the south side, or creating separate setups for morning and evening movement.

We consider:

• The wind at the stand
• Where scent will travel downwind
• Thermal movement in the morning and evening
• The deer’s expected approach
• Hunter entry and exit routes
• Nearby bedding and feeding areas

We would rather leave a good stand unhunted than force it on the wrong wind and educate the deer using that area.

Having multiple options also allows us to rotate hunting pressure. Instead of repeatedly hunting the same location, we can choose the stand that gives us the best conditions while keeping other areas rested.

Stand placement is not about finding one perfect spot. It’s about building a system of locations that can be hunted intelligently.

Give Deer a Reason to Stay

A well-managed property should provide more than a place for deer to pass through. It should offer the food, cover and security they need throughout the year.

Depending on the property, improvements may include:

• Food plots designed for different seasons
• Soil testing and proper fertilization
• Selective mowing
• Creating thicker bedding and escape cover
• Releasing productive oak trees
• Improving field edges
• Establishing screening cover
• Maintaining travel corridors between key areas

Not every property needs a large food plot. In some cases, improving natural browse or creating better security cover will produce a greater benefit.

The right improvement depends on what the property already provides—and what it is missing.

Our goal isn’t to make every acre look clean and manicured. Deer often prefer the areas people think look messy. Good habitat work is about creating useful diversity while protecting the places where deer feel secure.

We've been talking alot about entry and exit from our stands or blinds.

Hunters naturally focus on where deer will be when choosing a stand. We also focus on how the hunter will get there—and how the hunter will leave. You should be too.

A Great Stand With Bad Access Is a Bad Stand

Hunters naturally focus on where deer will be when choosing a stand. We also focus on how the hunter will get there—and how the hunter will leave.

A stand can overlook tremendous deer movement and still be nearly impossible to hunt without alerting the deer.

Before selecting a permanent location, we consider:

• Prevailing wind direction
• Morning and evening access
• Nearby bedding cover
• Where deer are likely to be when we approach
• Ground scent left along the access route
• Noise and visibility
• Whether the hunter can leave after dark without clearing the area

Sometimes the best-looking tree isn’t the right tree. Moving a stand 50 yards may create a much cleaner entrance, a safer wind and a better chance of keeping the property undisturbed.

Successful whitetail hunting isn’t only about being in the right place. It’s about getting into that place without the deer knowing you are there.
