As part of our National Golf Month series, we're answering some of golf's most common questions and sharing a few fun facts along the way.

This week's question: Why do golfers yell "Fore?"

While no one knows for certain where the word originated, the most widely accepted explanation is that it comes from the military. Soldiers would call out "Beware before!" to warn those ahead, which eventually became shortened to "Fore!"

Today, it's golf's universal warning that a ball may be headed your way, giving others time to take cover.

Have you ever had to yell "Fore!"... or been on the receiving end of one? 😅

Stay tuned for another edition of Tee Time Trivia next week!

⛳ August is National Golf Month!

To celebrate, we're kicking off a brand-new weekly series: Tee Time Trivia!

Each week throughout August, we'll share a fun fact, answer a common golf question, or uncover a little piece of the game's history. Whether you've been golfing for decades or you're just getting started, there's always something new to learn.

This week's question...

Why are birdies called "birdies?"

The term dates back to 1903, when golfer Ab Smith hit an excellent shot and called it "a bird of a shot," using popular slang of the time. His group agreed that one stroke under par should be called a birdie, and the name quickly caught on across the golf world.

Now it's your turn! What's your favorite golf term or what golf questions do you have? Let us know in the comments, and stay tuned for next week's Tee Time Trivia!

Golf Myth Monday: We're debunking some golf comments we often hear and want your input!

Does a new golf ball really travel farther?

Our take, not necessarily!

Unless your current ball is damaged, the biggest difference usually comes from choosing the right type of golf ball for your swing speed—not simply opening a fresh sleeve.

How long do you usually keep the same ball in play?

Play smarter in the heat this season.

Many golfers focus on staying hydrated (which you absolutely should!), but your equipment feels the heat, too.

✔ Keep extra water in your bag.
✔ Store rangefinders and electronics out of direct sunlight.
✔ Wear a glove rotation if you're sweating.
✔ Stretch before the first tee—your body warms up differently on hot days.

Stay cool out there!
