Praggnanandhaa takes down the World no.1 Magnus Carlsen in an absolutely wild battle in Round 3 of Norway Chess 2026!
In a game which had big chances for both players, Pragg had the last laugh - it came down the seconds, and Pragg found some clutch tactics in the end to win.
Praggnanandhaa defeated Magnus in a classical game of chess for the first time at Norway Chess 2024 - that was also Round 3. What a play by Pragg - after a tough loss against Alireza in Round 2, he bounces back and is on 4.5/9 points now!

Javokhir Sindarov on his game vs. Jorden van Foreest: “I know this exact position! I remember the game between Garry Kasparov and Judit Polgár, where Kasparov had rook and knight, and he checkmated. I know how to checkmate here when the white king is on g1 or h1. If the knight comes to e3 and the Black king gets to g3, even without pawns, it’s always winning.”
He was referring to the 1996 game between Garry Kasparov and Judit Polgár, where Kasparov converted the rook-and-knight vs. rook endgame successfully. Interestingly, Sindarov also had rook and knight vs. rook earlier in the event against Anish Giri, though that game ended in a draw.
