Do not disturb, testing in progress! Checking out a new battery status and run time hour meter set up. It will show you when you need to recharge your batteries and hopefully give you ample time to reach your charger location (without walking)! It also has a run time meter (in hours and tenths) with the ability to reset whenever you want.

This is our 3rd EZ-GO RXV golf cart repair and our 4th RXV brake failure. One cart had the 2nd brake failure within one year. Perhaps that is why they now call them "the new and improved" brake! One improvement is in the price, much less than the $150 we paid for the first one.
I am posting pictures of the cart, the failed brake, the motor end (where the brake is mounted), the control area and plugs and finally our latest purchase.... the golf cart charger, every one who works on golf carts, should have!

A new set of batteries, a few bushings and some "elbow grease" put this cart back in tip top shape!

Looking for a charger? I just bought one of these for an EZ-GO RXV cart. A great looking, well built charger available for 36 or 48 volt carts with your choice of plug styles. A 17 amp output with programable set points. Comes with a CD ROM instruction/owners manual.
All this and at a reasonable price.
We learned a lot about EZ-GO RXV golf carts this week. Actually we had to as another brake failure on an earlier cart had us scrambling for answers. No plugs to swap to release the failed electric brake on this one. It has a spring assist lever mounted on the brake to do that. We found out how AFTER removing the brake from the motor. This brake was repairable which helped reduce the repair bill by over $100. Good news is nearly always followed by bad news and it held true this time also as the charger was "kaput". We had a 48 volt (low amp) charger in house which is also almost $150 cheaper than the replacement charger for this cart and works just as well as long as you have at least 8 hours before you need a full charge. Everyone was happy and the cart has been returned to its owner. By the way, top speed on this cart was close to 22 mph on level ground (paved road)!!!
Tip of the day
How well do you know your golf cart? Do you have a DC (direct current) series motor? Or is it a DC compound (seperately excited) motor? Or could it be an AC (alternating current) motor?
These are important questions that need to be answered before trying to diagnose a problem with any cart. In later model carts (ones that use an electronic cotroller to determine speed and/or direction, compound motors or AC motors are being used. These motors have a speed cotroller to sense motor rpm and send tbat information to the controller.
A failed speed sensor symptoms can be ...
1- slow speed (5 or so mph max)
2 - erratic speed (very slow or even stop)
3 - stuttering speed (similar to very low battery pack voltage).
For some great information on this just google " Speed sensor symptoms on EZ-GO (or club car) golf carts.

Biggest problem with an EZ-GO RXV cart??? Well as much as I DO like them, the electric motor braking system has a high failure rate and is not easy to replace. This is the second one in just over a year for this cart. To make even more difficult, the small gear (on the step) was supposed to come off with the brake. It had gotten so hot that it stuck on the motor shaft and we had to pull the motor to get it off.
We found "a new and improved" brake for $120 on Amazon, we will see how long this one lasts!
Put another club car back in service today, also learned how to put a high quality, low cost forward/reverse switch in an older EZ-GO cart.

Completed adding a rear flip seat to this E-Z-GO cart today. $350 addition (installed) makes any cart able to carry extra passengers or a sizeable payload. Call us of you would like one on your cart.
