Tamie Smith picked up three FEI wins at Carolina International CCI and Horse Trial this weekend, including the feature CCI4*-S division on a promising new partner.
We're here for the chaos 👏😆
Ireland's Lee Maher picked up his first career FEI victory on Saturday in the Dechra US Equine CCI1*-S with Home Track Farm's HTF Charming Cooley, so naturally we had to ask his husband, 5* rider Chris Talley, to (attempt to) conduct his interview!
Let's hear from our three-division winner, Tamie Smith, visiting us all the way from California to make her first appearance at the Setters' Run Farm Carolina International since 2022. Tamie took home wins in the CDP Stables CCI4*-S (Lillet 3), the Cordelia Family Foundation CCI3*-S (Spiro P) and the Breezeway Sporthorse and Diagnostic Clinic / Friendship Veterinary Imaging Center CCI2*-S (Solaguayre Cantata).
Tamie also clued us in on a very exciting new horse named Mai Fire (sound familiar?) who's just joined her team.
How does he look?! Boyd Martin swapped his jump saddle and jacket for a cowboy hat and a Western saddle (+ a buckle to keep!) for a quick lesson in the ever-growing sport of Western Dressage. This demo was made even more special as Boyd, the 2025 USEF International Equestrian of the Year, rode Athenian Lady, the 2025 USEF National Horse of the Year and a champion in her own right with her rider, Amanda Delgado of Olympus Equestrian. Athenian Lady is a rescue who was found by Amanda and, despite being told multiple times she was dangerous and unrideable, went on to be a true horse of a lifetime. Athena even has her own Breyer Model Horses!

The Setters’ Run Farm Carolina International and the Carolina Horse Park are deeply saddened to announce that Heathcliff, a 13-year-old Canadian Sport Horse gelding competing in the Novice Rider division, collapsed and died as he and his rider, Angi Bevers, were entering the ring for show jumping on Saturday afternoon (March 21). Angi was uninjured during the incident.
Heathcliff was immediately attended to by a competition veterinarian who was nearby, but unfortunately the horse passed away quickly after collapsing.
The horse will be transported to Rollins Lab in Raleigh, NC, where a necropsy will be performed to determine the full cause of death.
We extend our deepest sympathies to Angi Bevers and her family.
We will resume our coverage of our FEI divisions and Horse Trials on Sunday, out of respect for Angi and those who loved Heathcliff.
