1. I’d forgotten how much fun it is to be a beginner.
No average speed to chase. No power targets. Just learning something new, enjoying the scenery, and occasionally wondering what I’ve gotten myself into.
2. Mountain biking demands a different kind of attention.
On the road, I’m watching my watts. On the trail, I’m watching the damn trees. And the roots. And the rocks. And whatever else is trying to throw me off the bike.
3. Fitness doesn’t equal skill.
I can ride a road bike for hours. Apparently that doesn’t mean I know what the hell I’m doing when the trail gets technical. 😂
Nearly 30 years riding bikes, and somehow I’ve found another reason to love them.
Roadies who’ve tried mountain biking, what surprised you most?
