And the February theme is...

OPEN HEARTS!

No, not like that...

We are going to be focusing on upper body posture. Specifically, increasing range of motion by opening the chest, and then working on movements to strengthen our latissimus dorsi aka Lats, which are responsible for all pulling motions. The lats are difficult to target without a pull-up bar, but they are essential for shoulder stability, so we are going to get creative!

Hey you! I see how hard you are working! You have been crushing those workouts and are starting to see your hard work pay off. But are you saving time for recovery?

I will be the first to admit that I struggle there. What has helped me this year has been to schedule recovery time. Friday nights: glass of wine and foam roller. Saturday mornings: Yoga. Make a schedule and hold yourself accountable.

Beginning next week I will be hosting a free weekly recovery class. 15-20 minutes to concentrate on rewarding your body for all it’s hard work.

⭐️And so 2020 comes to a close. I always hated the hype around the New Year, but this year is definitely worthy of reflection.

⭐️I learned a lot this year. Coming to Raleigh, I really wasn’t sure where I fit in as a trainer. I worked for other people, tried to excel within the mold I was given, and spent a lot of time being “busy”.

⭐️2020 gave me the opportunity to struggle, to flounder, to panic, to question, to experiment, and to grow. I figured out a way to pivot on unsteady ground and keep moving forward.

⭐️But most importantly, it gave me the opportunity to fight for what was most important to me. My friends and family, my love of movement, and my true love for the fitness community.

⭐️So here is my 2021 challenge to myself and to you. Remember standing in line for 45 minutes to get into a grocery store. Remember having to cook for yourself for 3 months. Remember Zoom Thanksgiving. Remember outdoor workouts when it was 97 degrees, and then when it was 40. Remember the things that were worth the extra effort, and never take them for granted.

⭐️Being pushed out of your comfort zone is never easy, but it is the only place that gives us room to grow. Because if 2020 has taught us anything, it is that anything is possible! Let’s keep that momentum as we roll into 2021 friends! Happy New Year!

Finally starting to feel like Fall around here!! Which means I am finally enjoying the temperature for outdoor workouts😜.

This week as we continue our focus on shoulder stability, we will be talking about the rotator cuff (yeah that word that seems to always be followed by another word: injury).
We will be covering the 3xS: strength, stability, stretching (mobility is a better word but 2xS 1xM isn’t very catchy...)😛

If this doesn’t perfectly sum up today, I don’t know what will.

As many of you have heard, we will unfortunately be closing SLT Raleigh at the end of this week. I am heartbroken for our community of incredible clients that took a chance and tried something new, who came back and endured every shake, and who though hard work and dedication, made their bodies stronger. Slowly but surely, we saw you make connections, engage, and build this new little community that came to sweat at 445 Daniels Street.

Endless thanks to for giving us this opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. Endless thanks to each and every incredible client who made this community what it is today. Endless gratitude to each and every fellow SLT instructor for their support and loving post-it notes along the way!
