“What's gonna make you actually stand out and get the client? It is the authentic you.”

That line from Beverly Wilburn hit hard because it’s true far beyond speaking, consulting, or social media.

People are exhausted by performative leadership.

They’re craving honesty, trust, authenticity, and people who actually care.

One of the biggest themes in this episode was that sustainable influence is built through relationships and reciprocity, not desperation for visibility.

The people who lead well are the people grounded enough to simply be themselves.

One of the most uncomfortable parts of leadership is letting someone struggle long enough to grow.

Especially when you already know the answer. Especially when stepping in would be faster.

But constantly rescuing people doesn’t build confidence. It builds hesitation. People stop trusting themselves because they’ve learned someone else will eventually take over.

A lot of teams don’t actually need more training. They need more room to think. More room to try. More room to make mistakes without feeling like they failed.

That kind of leadership requires patience and self-awareness. It asks you to pause before immediately fixing, correcting, or jumping in.

And sometimes leading better looks like talking less.

Who on your team might need a little more space right now?

“It’s very thirsty. It’s like… look at me.”

That line from Beverly Wilburn pretty much sums up a huge issue happening in dentistry right now.

In Episode 45 of The Real Talk of Dental, we had a very honest conversation about authenticity, leadership, influence, and the performative culture that’s quietly taking over parts of the industry.

We talked about the pressure to constantly stay visible online, the rise of transactional networking, AI-generated content that all sounds the same, and why people can instantly feel the difference between someone who genuinely wants to help versus someone who simply wants attention.

One of my favorite parts of this conversation is that it wasn’t about criticizing people. It was about coming back to what actually builds trust: Real relationships, leadership, and integrity.

Because the people who will stand out long term are not the loudest people in the room.
They’re the people who are actually grounded in who they are.

We're having a real conversation about a trend in dentistry right now.

Somewhere along the way, a lot of the industry started feeling more focused on attention than actual connection.

More “look at me.”
Less “how can I serve?”

In Episode 45 of The Real Talk of Dental, I am with Beverly Wilburn for a brutally honest conversation about authenticity, leadership, burnout, scarcity mindset, and the “pick me” culture that’s quietly shaping so much of the dental space right now.

We talked about performative leadership, transactional networking, AI-generated content making everyone sound identical, the rise of unvetted experts, and why trust matters more now than ever before

One of my favorite parts of this conversation is that it’s not about tearing people down. It’s about coming back to what actually matters: Integrity, reciprocity, real relationships, and leadership that comes from lived experience, not just visibility.

This episode is honest, uncomfortable at times, and incredibly needed.

“AI is gonna be most impactful… in allowing people to be the most human version of themselves.”

The real issue in dentistry isn’t that people care less.
It’s that they’re overwhelmed.

When providers are balancing documentation, treatment planning, patient communication, schedules, and nonstop interruptions every single day, it becomes harder to stay present.

This conversation with Danny Bessonov was such an important reminder that technology should support human connection — not replace it.
