Join us in celebrating senior Emmie Cullen!

Emersyn is the daughter of Nikki and Jon Cullen and is completing her fourth season with Storm. Emersyn’s favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:12-13, which says, “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” One thing Emersyn has learned is how soccer translates into how you go about life. If you work hard on the field, you’ll build the character to work hard in other areas. Emersyn plans to take a gap year to work, gain experience, and take time to thoughtfully explore future options, whether that leads to college or another path that feels like the right fit. Emersyn’s favorite memory with Storm is going to the Braddy’s beach house in Wilmington before a game and the tournament in Tennessee. When asked who motivates her, Emersyn said: “My coaches, who push me to always work hard and improve my skill, and the girls on the team, encouraging one another and pushing each other to be better.”

Coach Sean had these words to describe Emersyn: “I have had the pleasure of working with Emmie for the last three years. Emmie has been a steady part of the growth of the Storm women’s soccer program. She is an excellent defender who has developed her skills greatly in the past few years. Emmie places very high in our fitness testing and is valuable as a player because she can be an excellent defender, but she can also contribute to the attack. She scored an important goal against Dash this season while playing in defense, and she does a great job of supporting our attack from the back part of the field. I have also enjoyed serving with her father Jon, sharing coaching duties the last 3 seasons. Jon is one of the best human beings I have ever known, and she reflects many of these great qualities. Emmie is an excellent soccer player, a wonderful person, a strong believer, and a great teammate. I wish her the absolute best in her life moving forward and hope she will not be a stranger to Storm soccer moving forward. Thank you Emmie.”

Congrats to senior Matt Hart!

Matthew is the son of Andrea and Mike Hart and is completing his seventh season with Storm. Matthew’s favorite Bible verse is Matthew 19:26, which says, “But Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’” One thing Matthew has learned is that in order to play a sport, you have to have a full team that wants to win, and you can’t do it without Jesus. Matthew’s future plans are to continue in classes at Nash Community College. Matthew’s favorite memory with Storm is “playing all my seasons with Jude Posey and always being on the same team as Jude. I loved every season with him.”When asked who motivates him, Matthew said: “My brother has been a huge in the way I play. He always played as hard as he could and gave 100%, he truly inspired me.”

Coach John had these words to describe Matthew: “Matt has been with Storm baseball for about as long as any player in our history. He has always been a leader on the field. He plays extremely hard. His energy level is A+ and he comes ready to play. He has been a foundational piece of our program for almost two decades. He has a wonderful family that encourages the other players and even the coaches. We will never forget what he and his family have meant to this program. Matt, stay close to our God. Cling to him every day because you will and do need Him every day. Keep running hard…with God on all sides.”

Welcome Caroline Klick for our Senior Spotlight! Caroline is the daughter of Kelly and Brandon Klick and is completing her fifth season with Storm. Caroline’s favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:6-7, which says “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” One thing Caroline has learned is how to be a part of a team who loves and builds one another up. Caroline’s future plans are to transfer to NC State in the spring and work in pharmaceutical sales. Caroline’s favorite memory with Storm is winning the championship in a penalty kick shootout against Dash. When asked who motivates her, Caroline said: “My parents have always motivated me to play my hardest and give my all. They have driven me to every single game and have shown me so much support throughout my fifteen years of soccer. Sean has been the first coach I’ve had to believe in me even when I didn’t believe in myself and I will forever be grateful for everything he has taught me about soccer and life. I am also grateful for Johnny. He has always pointed me towards Christ and encouraged me during games. Lastly, I am thankful for Jon Cullen. He has always encouraged all of us and cared and prayed for each of us, which made a very special environment.”

For today’s Senior Spotlight we have Brady Corso!

Brayden is the son of Juli and Mark Corso and is completing his third season with Storm. Brayden’s favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11, which says, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” Through Storm, Brayden has learned Sportsmanship, Friendships, and striving
for future goals. Brayden will be traveling to Thailand and England this summer with his church on a short-term mission trip, along with attending UNCW in the Fall, majoring in Criminology. Brayden’s favorite memory of Storm is spending time with the team during the
most recent tournament. When asked who motivates him, Brayden said: “Coach Posey is a great
example to the team and me personally. He led us through his coaching, encouragement, and pointing us to the Lord.”

Coach John had these words to describe Brayden: “Brady has been such a pleasure to coach. He never complains. He makes his coaches and teammates laugh. He is a quiet leader on the field, and everyone likes Brady. He hustles. I believe that with God’s direction and if Brady stays close to our Heavenly Father, there is nothing he can’t accomplish. He has a great set of parents and a strong family that obviously are a close bunch. He and his brother support each other and love each other which is beautiful to
watch. He will be missed.”
