For our next Senior Spotlight we’ve got Josh Orthner! Josh is completing his third season with the Storm. Josh’s favorite scripture is Colossians 3:23 which says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” One thing Josh has learned is to persevere through pain because of the knowledge of the reward. Josh’s future plans include going into business and exploratory studies at NC state. His favorite memory with the Storm was doing the prayers right before practice this last season. When asked who motivates him, Josh says, “All of my coaches have given me ample reason and encouragement to push myself.”

Next up for coach intros is Middle School Boys Cross Country Coach JP Hall!

JP has been coaching with Storm for three years. Before coaching, he rain on the Storm XC team for five years, winning the State Championship his senior year!

When asked why he’s passionate about coaching in a Christ-centered environment, JP shared that, “sports have a different effect on athletes when you know you’re doing it for a higher purpose. You don’t get upset when you lose, you don’t get all high and mighty when you win. All because our identity is in Christ. And with sports being as big of a deal as it is in today’s world, it gives us a unique opportunity to showcase Christ to a lot of people at one time.”

Outside of coaching, JP works full-time in landscaping, is a personal trainer, and owns an online health and wellness business.

JP’s favorite verses are “making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭16‬-‭17‬ ‭and “Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” Colossians‬ ‭4‬:‭5‬-‭6‬

Up next for our Senior Spotlight is Lauren McAuley! Lauren is completing her second season with the Storm. Lauren’s favorite scripture is Mark 8:36 which says, “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” One thing Lauren has learned is the power of the tongue and how much the words you speak to others and thoughts you let in your mind affect everything around you. Lauren’s future plans include finishing her associates in spring 2027 and then pursuing cosmetology next fall. Lauren’s favorite memory with the Storm was all the time spent with her teammates but especially karaoke in Gatlinburg singing Teenage Dirtbag with Rachel and Joy. When asked who motivates her, Lauren says, “Coach Renee has been the most incredible coach I’ve ever had, she’s so intentional with her words and with our time. She speaks life to everyone around her and is a constant encouragement.”

Give it up for our next Senior, Isaiah Fleming! Isaiah is completing his third season with the Storm. Isaiah’s favorite scripture is Isaiah 53:5 which says, “But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.” One thing Isaiah has learned is perseverance throughout the seasons that I’ve played. Isaiah’s future plans include either transferring to NC State to pursue a degree in Sports Management or to work in the trades field. Isaiah’s favorite memory with the Storm was beating Gate City last season in the last few minutes of the game. When asked who motivates him, Isaiah says, “My parents. They always have helped remind me that even when I feel frustrated, that I’m playing for God and not for man and that’s why I keep working hard and playing.”

Up next, Senior Ansleigh Waites! She is completing her sixth season with the Storm. Ansleigh’s favorite verse is Matthew 10:39 which says, “Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” One thing Ansleigh has learned from running is not to settle or stay comfortable. The best growth happens when you push past what feels easy. Ansleigh’s future plans include finishing her Bachelor’s in Health Science at Liberty University, then attending a community college to become a Physical Therapy Assistant. Ansleigh’s favorite memory with the Storm was the Wilson night race in the rain while running in mud puddles. Her parents loved that car ride home. When asked who motivates her, Ansleigh said, “Watching my parents constantly chase after the Lord inspires me to pick up my cross daily and make my faith my own.”

Our next Senior Spotlight: Josie Ennis! Josie is completing her eighth season with the Storm. Josie’s favorite verse is Philippians 4:6-7 which says, Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Josie has learned to persevere through physical and mental challenges. God gives her the strength to do more than she thinks she’s capable of. Josie’s future plans include going to nursing school, hoping to work in pediatrics or oncology. Josie’s favorite memory with the Storm was doing the hokie-pokie at the starting line of a big race, which really helped to calm her nerves and unite the team!, Josie says, “My dad and my older brother Isaac have encouraged and helped me tremendously as a runner.”
