It's that time of year again; prepping for Comicon and loading the car...
I'll be in Artist's Alley, as per usual, same location: AA-O8
And this year, I'll put some original art in the Art Show (located in the Hyatt)

Sooo... I am doing an 'author reading' from "Exiles of Eeria," our urban fantasy anthology set in San Diego, on June 8. Possibly, some of the other authors may join -- still waiting for confirmation. But the info is here:

St. Mary's member, Sue Dawe, has co-authored a book, Exiles of Eeria. A fantasy novel set in San Diego, it tells of the not-so-mythical Grysaille and their adventures in our own county! Come back to church on Sunday, June 8 at 1:00pm to hear Sue read excerpts and share never-before-heard backstory about the main characters. Just finished entering my students into Student Showcase at the SD County Fair. 28 entries. Lots of work (every year they make the online entry paperwork harder -- ugh!) But my students have some pretty awesome art, so everyone heading to the Fair this year, check out their work in the student Showcase (it's under the bleachers, so its a nice cool place to hang out for a bit).

Cleaning up my studio so I can prep for Comicon; I'll be in Artist's Alley, Table AA-08 (same as last year!) Hope to see some of you there!

Hi all my artist friends:

There is a SCAM going on out there, targeting commercial artists! I am pretty sure they got my information off of Linked In. But, I was contacted by a man named "Cody Francisco" to do some illustrations for an upcoming symposium; the charity is legit, the 'sponsor' (from whom the checks would come) is also a legit company, although I think they know nothing of this scam. The deadlines seemed normal, also the descriptions of the artwork needed. Even so, my "spider senses" were tingling, and they really went off when they wanted to pay me all of it, up front, and wanted me to deposit the check immediately. I couldn't contact the charity because they are closed down until Jan. 3.

I talked to a friend from the IRS, and she told me that sometimes charities do want to pay everything and have it deposited, if the end of the year is coming up, and they have designated funds for certain purposes; if they don't use it by the end-of-year deadline, they lose it. The second thing suspicious, is he wanted a copy of the bank receipt after it was deposited. (Like I would even do that, without blacking out any of my information!)

The check came in the form of a Chase bank check, sent by priority mail. To my untrained eye, the check looked legit. Fortunately, I bank at Chase, and told the teller I was suspicious; she immediately noticed that the bank logo was in the wrong place. She called in the manager, and they did some more research, and it turns out, the check was a total fake! They even looked up the account, and although the account is real, checks are not allowed to be drawn on it.

So be forewarned. Scam artists are out there! Fortunately, I hadn't started work on the project, other than having some of my students pose for me (for which they got some extra-credit points). So it ended well. But... be wary!

Emerald Cove at SD Who Con!

The two Susans of Emerald Cove (Sue Dawe and Susan Ruff) are at SD Who Con this weekend. If you're at the convention, stop by our table in the dealer's room to chat.

So, our anthology is now in paperback and hardcover. And I must say, that the production values on the hardcover (at least the sample they sent us) are awesome! The illustrations came out beautifully! (and that's saying a lot, coming from the artist!)

THIS IS IT!!! Finally! Four years in the making, lots of background world building, and two classes in digital illustration. Our new anthology has everything: life, death, tragedy, humor and romance. And illustrations. 😉 I am so proud of this anthology and all the work my co-authors have put into it. We are bringing magic to San Diego
