Date-line: April 14th, 2016
Location: Run-A-Muck Raceway – Camp Run-A-Muck – Ramona CA – Planet Earth
Event: Fifth Annual RC500 – Deemed “THE MAY DAY500”
Recap – Thoughts – Reflections Post race:
Wow…I woke up today, pulled the microphone out of my shorts pocket and looked at the calendar…13 Days & Nights have passed since Race Day…Finally, I’m coming out of my comma…It must have been Krazy Fun! I hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as Karen and I enjoyed having you all.
I want to thank the Kiwanis Grill Team for a great job preparing the food for us. They were a great addition to our group of Krazy friends and family! You all fit right in!
I also want to thank everyone for their generous contributions and ambitious raffle ticket purchasing…Congratulations to Michelle Wrenn the winner of the 2016 TRAXXAS Junk Truck. We expect to see her back next year competing in the Chicks Only Race. After all was said and done, combined, we donated $1,320.00 to the Poway Kiwanis Club Foundation!
Also, the Flippers deserve a Giant Thank You this year for once again doing a great job of keeping the trucks on the track and getting the job done without any injuries! Thank you to Kris Merritt for the excellent job of Flipper training and supervision. Several kids left much richer than they were when they arrived.
The Lap Counters need to be recognized as well. This is a much tougher job than it looks like…The pressure is incredible…Sort of like the time I was called out of the bleachers to umpire behind home plate at one of the girls “T-Ball” games…I really feared for my life…Mostly due to the parents screams and name calling… Anyway, thank you Lap Counters.
Dr. Wilson, our Pit Boss, Chief of Run-A-Muck Raceway Trauma Center needs a special thank you! Somehow he managed to save the lives of at least 11 cars. He kept the loaner fleet running and provided bribe-free, fair distribution of the loaners. This is hard to do when you only have 10 loaners and over 100 people wanting to drive. Job well done Dr.!!!
On the Very Top of my Thank You List, Stands the One and Only, “Grindin’ Gears Grammy!” Without her Understanding and Patience, this would never happen. She lets the Real Kid Come Out to Play at Least Once a Year and She is the Queen of My Heart and Forever Will Be My Shotgun Rider!!! I Love Her to the Moon and Back…
So, all in all… The Race was a Success…Everyone Went Home a Winner…The Smiles Were Plentiful and the Complaints Were Sparse…We do invite your comments and suggestion on how we can make future races even better. Please feel free to shoot us an email!
Again, a very special thank you to the drivers and fans who attended this year’s race! We do appreciate the good sportsmanship the majority of our drivers displayed.
The staffers of Run-A-Muck Raceway worked their butts off getting ready and cleaning up…I thank them all for that.
NOTICE TO DRIVERS: Car Numbers – Recommend removing your car numbers right away to prevent them sticking. We have removed all the number s from the loaner fleet with no problem and several others have reported the same. If they seem to be sticking use a small heat gun or hair dryer to warm them up. Next race we will have new numbers again.
In traditional fashion, I provide a short recap of Race Day. I have been asked to shorten my recap again this year. So I will do my best…I thought cutting it back to nine pages last year might have shortchanged some people. I am really concerned about hurting feelings, as always…but here you go… “The Abridged Version” AKA Nothing But the Facts:
Post-Race, Track Walk & Inspection, by the CSI Team, Recovered: No blood or body parts again…Great news!

THINGS TO RETHINK AND ANTICIPATE FOR NEXT YEAR:
• Almost everyone will be invited back!
• We may run two separate races to allow for additional track time to all drivers.
• We will be discussing ways to improve the event. If you are interested in providing input please contact us by email as soon as possible.
• We will ask all drivers to pre-register in the future. It did help immensely this year.
• We realize the importance of more accurate lap counting and we now have the full buy-in of the “Chair of the Camp Run-A-Muck Budget Committee,” Grindin’ Gears Grammy, who has agreed to reconsider the hefty expenditure for the equipment required to install the fully automated lap counting system. Each driver wanting to be counted by the system will be required to purchase one transponder per car, one time only, at a cost of $30.00 and install them in their car prior to race day in order to compete in the official races. This system will include a big screen TV mounted trackside for fans to view the real-time race results including lap times and number of laps completed. We will be sending out a survey regarding your participation in the sensors and the installation requirements.
• There was talk amongst the Flippers again this year of certain, potential demands, which they plan to present to the Executive Board prior to next year’s race…we will certainly keep you apprised as things develop on this front…
Thanks again to all and we look forward to seeing you at the next race!!!
