When I was a boy, growing up in the hood did not seem that bad, it was all I knew. In fourth or fifth grade I much older boy tried to take my bike. I held on to that bike as he was beating me. He continued to hit me until he was exhausted. I refused to give up my bike in spite of getting an ass kicking, I saved my bike and went home crying. Not a good feeling but I did learn that I could take an ass beating and as long as I did not give up, I had a chance of winning. That lesson would serve we well later in life in some crazy fights where the stakes were much more than a bike.
