Good alignment starts before you ever take your stance! Use this simple 5-step routine to create a consistent setup and give yourself the best chance of hitting your target.

1. Stand Behind the Ball
Visualize the entire shot and draw an imaginary line from your ball to your final target. Decide where you want the ball to finish before stepping in.

2. Pick an Intermediate Target
Choose a small spot—like a leaf, divot, or blade of grass—about 1–2 feet in front of your ball along your target line. This gives you a much easier reference point for aiming.

3. Aim the Clubface First
Place the clubhead behind the ball and square the clubface to your intermediate target before setting your feet. Clubface first, body second!

4. Align Your Body — “Train Tracks”
Once the clubface is set, build your stance around it. Your feet and shoulders should run parallel to your target line. Think of two railroad tracks:
Ball = right rail | Body = left rail.

5. Verify & Fire
Take one final look at your target, trust your setup, and swing. Don’t second-guess it—commit and fire!

🎯 The goal: Build the same aiming routine before every shot. The more consistent your pre-shot process becomes, the easier it is to aim confidently and eliminate unnecessary alignment mistakes.

Pin Seeking: Red, Yellow & Green Light System

The Pin Seeking Traffic Light System helps golfers make smarter decisions when hitting iron shots into greens. Before every approach shot, assess the pin location, surrounding hazards, green contours, yardage, and where your typical miss could end up.

🔴 Red Light — Play Safe
A tucked pin near water, bunkers, the edge of the green, or other trouble is high risk with a high penalty. Instead of firing at the flag, aim toward the safest portion of the green and give yourself a chance to two-putt.

🟡 Yellow Light — Proceed With Caution
The pin may be approachable, but slopes, ridges, firm conditions, or an awkward miss make the shot less predictable. Choose a smart target based on your yardage and preferred miss rather than automatically aiming at the flag.

🟢 Green Light — Go For It
Attack when you have a comfortable yardage, plenty of green around the pin, favorable conditions, and safe areas surrounding your normal miss. When the risk is low and the reward is high, be confident and commit to the flag.

The golden rule: If you’re ever unsure whether a pin is red, yellow, or green — always play it safe. Center of the green is never a bad target.

🕰️ The Clock System — Wedge Distance Control ⛳️

The Clock System is a simple way to control wedge distances by changing the length of your backswing instead of changing your tempo. Think of your arms and club like the hands of a clock: different stopping points create predictable distances.

🕘9 o’clock — Waist Height: Take the club back until your hands are roughly waist high. This is your shortest, most controlled swing.
🕥10:30 — Three-Quarter Swing: Take the club farther back, between waist height and a full backswing. This produces a medium-distance wedge shot.
🕛Full Swing: Make your normal complete backswing for your longest comfortable carry with that wedge.

The 🔑 is to use the same smooth tempo and acceleration on every swing. Let the backswing length control the distance, rather than trying to hit the ball harder or softer.


🏌️‍♂️Build Your Own Wedge Chart 📈

Practice all three swing lengths with each wedge. Hit several shots from 9 o’clock, 10:30, and full, then record your average carry distance for each combination. With three wedges and three swing lengths, you now have nine reliable yardages you can take onto the golf course.

Remember: Same tempo. Different backswing. Predictable distance.
