Proud as hell of my twin students Jaxson and Riley Clanton for competing their asses off today. Jason took Gold and Silver while medaling in 2 separate divisions and Riley took Silver. Both competed against heavier divisions and won matches against older competitors.

I’ve never been more proud of my team… Jags defeat the Chiefs 31-28

Proud as hell of my student/assistant coach Almog Cohen for winning by submission tonight at the BJJ Tour in Santa Cruz.. a rib injury kept him out of the final, but he’s still a badass and took bronze out of a field of 11 competitors.

Not without grit, faith, determination and sacrifice did this happen… never give up on yourself, never give up on your dreams.

I just wanted to share the good news that for the 4th consecutive year my MMA business Apex Predator MMA has won the award for Best Martial Arts Club in Rancho Cordova. This happens as I approach my 45th birthday next week. While I’m at it I also want to point out that none of this has been easy, and without sacrifice. A lot of people tell me I’m lucky to be able to do what I love for a living. I’m quick to respond that luck has nothing to do with it. None of this would have been possible without the strength of having been battle tested from years of adversity. That began long before I even considered opening a business. Before opening Apex Predator in 2021 I knew to become successful there would also be a lot of ups and downs… turmoil that would make even the strongest men fold. I’ll be the first to admit that at times it’s been a lot. I’ll add that I’d be lying if I didn’t say I felt like giving it all up at times for a job I could just clock in and out of, something without the stress of owning and operating a business on my own. Coaching late into the evenings when most people have had time with their kids and eaten dinner well before midnight can be exhausting. It’s a lonely road to the top. Anyone who owns their own business, or has had to compete in this kind of arena can relate.. and if you’ve never been there, you wouldn’t understand. The one thing I’ve never considered despite the exhaustion, despite the injuries, despite the drama and despite everything that comes with the territory of owning this kind of business was ever giving up on my dreams. This is what has carried me all of these years and given me the strength to continue. I took a huge risk to abandon all my doubts well in my late 30s to open Apex Predator. After my son’s twin brother passed a week after they were born I decided life was too short to f**k around, it was too precious to waste. So I made a decision to step away from the certainty of a job that I was unhappy at and barely scraping by with into the big wide open world of uncertainty and take a chance to make my mark in this world with a business of my own. I knew what I was up against. I knew I was never the best fighter in the world. I knew there were bigger names out there that I would have to compete with to survive in this game. And I knew I’d be the underdog in the grand scheme of all of this and have to work twice as hard as everyone else to prove I belonged in the conversation. What I knew most of all is that I’ve got the heart of a champion. And now my fight club has won the award for Martial Arts Club of the Year in this area for 4 years straight. My kids are happy, comfortable and provided for. I eat and wear anything I want. I drive my dream car. I never worry about what’s going to happen if I choke out some as***le boss for micromanagement. I work everyday in MMA shorts and a T shirt. Most of all I help people become the best they can be. I’m living my dream. So let this serve as inspiration to all of you that it’s never too late to chase your dreams. That regardless of the odds you can win, you can make your mark in this world, in this life. I want to personally thank everyone that has been there throughout the years and shown up. This hasn’t been easy but I wouldn’t have it any other way. What a long strange trip it’s been. I’m blessed. Stay true to yourself and you will find your way too.

Proud as hell of my students Riley and Jaxon Clanton for winning the Gold and Silver medals, respectively, at the BJJ Tour American Cup tournament in Santa Cruz. They’re the first twin brothers to train for my fight club, Apex Predator MMA. Coaching them against eachother in the championship final was a bit tricky but at the end of the day both are victorious in their own right and had a great experience. Onto the next…
