The Middle Box is pristine wilderness, a remote and rarely-visited section of the Rio Grande Gorge. As dramatic as the Taos Box, with old-growth trees and soaring eagles, and Indian petroglyphs too. There is no road access, so the trip begins with a one-mile hike down into the canyon. (There is a road at the takeout so you don’t have to hike back out!) Only two companies are allowed to launch here each day. Our party will probably be the only human beings you see.

The Middle Box is ideal for adventurous people who have never paddled a funyak before as the water is mostly Class 1 and 2. The glory of this trip is the wilderness and the spectacular scenery: a truly memorable experience.

We do this trip in low water only, so this season is the perfect time to give us a call and get out on the water! 575-776-8854
