We just got in an Izhmash Saiga in 7.62x39, fully converted to a traditional AK configuration and stacked with upgrades. If you know Saigas, you know why this is worth talking about.

📖 A LITTLE BACKGROUND:

Izhmash — the historic Russian arsenal now known as Kalashnikov Concern — is the birthplace of the AK-47 itself. This is the same factory where Mikhail Kalashnikov's legendary design was brought to life. The Saiga line was Izhmash's civilian-market rifle, built on genuine AK tooling and known for that unmistakable factory Izhmash quality — the real deal, straight from the source.

Saigas were originally imported in a sporterized configuration to meet import rules, which is why a proper conversion is such a sought-after thing. When one is converted correctly back to true AK form, you get the best of both worlds — authentic Izhmash build quality in the classic fighting configuration it was always meant to wear.

When you see the name Barrett on a rifle, you already know the pedigree. And this one just landed in the shop.

The Barrett REC7 — an early generation, piston-driven model in 5.56 NATO, wearing a black finish and an M-LOK handguard. This is a piece of Barrett history right here.

📖 A LITTLE BACKGROUND:

Most people know Barrett for one thing — the legendary .50 caliber M107 that redefined what a rifle could do and became an icon in militaries around the world. But Barrett also set out to build a better fighting carbine, and the result was the REC7 — short for "Reliability Enhanced Carbine."

The whole point of the REC7 was in the name. Barrett took the AR platform and addressed its biggest knock — the direct impingement gas system that dumps hot, dirty gas back into the action. The early REC7s were built around a short-stroke gas piston system instead, keeping the action cooler and cleaner and dramatically improving reliability under hard use. It was Barrett's answer for shooters who wanted AR ergonomics with piston-driven dependability.

These early-generation piston guns are the ones that built the REC7's reputation. Finding a clean one is a treat.

The MR762 is Heckler & Koch's semi-auto civilian version of the HK417 — the big-bore battle rifle developed as the 7.62 NATO big brother to the legendary HK416. Where the 416 runs 5.56, the 417 was built to deliver serious downrange authority in full-power 7.62x51 / .308, and it has been trusted by elite military and special operations units around the world who needed more reach and more punch than an intermediate cartridge could offer.

The secret to the platform is HK's short-stroke gas piston operating system.
