John Moses Browning was born on this day in 1855. The “Father of Modern Firearms” was the son of a gunsmith and built his first firearm at the age of 10. He would earn his first of what would eventually become 128 patents at age 24 for the Wi******er Single Shot Model 1885. A true genius, his contributions impacted not just the development of fi****ms but altered world history. He passed away in 1926 at a workbench at Fabrique Nationale in Belgium working on a pistol that the world would come to know as the iconic Browning Hi Power. At FN he was called “le Maitre” which translates as “the Master” but in French it also means “teacher,” a fitting moniker for a man whose legacy continues to inspire inventors, entrepreneurs, and fi****ms designers almost a century after his passing.
