Part 2 of 4: When burnout becomes the clinician’s responsibility to fix.
Take your lunch. Use your PTO. Have better boundaries. Practice more self-care.
Self-care matters, but it cannot compensate for chronic understaffing, impossible productivity expectations, overwhelming caseloads, low pay, or workplace cultures that normalize overextending yourself.
Sometimes the question isn’t, “What else do I need to do to manage my burnout?”
It’s, “What is this environment asking me to tolerate?”
Self-care can support us. It shouldn’t be used as an excuse to tolerate unsustainable systems.
Follow for part 3, and share this with a fellow therapist who needs to hear it.
