Rathdrum’s Brandon Palaniuk had another big week on the Bassmaster Elite Series, finishing 2nd overall at the 2026 Yokohama Tire Bassmaster Elite at Santee Cooper Lakes in South Carolina.

Palaniuk finished the tournament with 94 pounds even. He also earned $21,000 for the event, including $20,000 in cash winnings and a $1,000 bonus.

Chris Johnston won the tournament with 113 pounds, 12 ounces. Drew Cook finished 3rd with 92 pounds, 9 ounces.

Palaniuk got off to a huge start. He weighed 29 pounds, 1 ounce on Day 1, then followed it up with 29 pounds, 15 ounces on Day 2.

That Day 2 bag was just one ounce short of 30 pounds.

His biggest fish of the week was an 8-pound, 6-ounce largemouth. That fish earned him Phoenix Boats Big Bass of the Day and helped push him into the lead after Day 2.

Santee Cooper has been a good stop for Palaniuk over the years. He won there in 2020, finished 3rd in 2023, 5th in 2024, and now adds a 2nd-place finish in 2026.

That is a pretty strong record on the same fishery.

For North Idaho, it is also another chance to watch one of our own compete at the highest level of bass fishing.

Bassmaster lists Palaniuk as being from Rathdrum, Idaho, with Lake Coeur d’Alene as his home water. He is known as “The Prodigy” and has been a full-time professional angler for 16 years.

His Bassmaster career numbers show just how much he has done in the sport:

• 187 total tournaments

• 14 Bassmaster Classic appearances

• 8 first-place finishes

• 10 second-place finishes

• 43 Top 10 finishes

• 70 Top 20 finishes

• 122 finishes in the money

• More than $2.29 million in career winnings

Palaniuk is also a two-time Bassmaster Angler of the Year, winning that title in 2017 and again in 2022.

His Elite Series wins include Bull Shoals in 2012, the St. Lawrence River in 2013, Sam Rayburn in 2017, Lake Champlain in 2020, Santee Cooper Lakes in 2020, and Lake Okeechobee in 2025.

Away from tournament fishing, Bassmaster lists his hobbies as videography, photography, snowboarding, and big game hunting. His family includes his wife, Tiffanie, and daughters Kora and Kyra.

• 1st: Chris Johnston — 113 pounds, 12 ounces

• 2nd: Brandon Palaniuk — 94 pounds even

• 3rd: Drew Cook — 92 pounds, 9 ounces

• 4th: Cory Johnston — 92 pounds, 3 ounces

• 5th: Pat Schlapper — 90 pounds, 3 ounces

Palaniuk did not leave South Carolina with the blue trophy this time, but a 2nd-place finish on the Bassmaster Elite Series is still a huge showing. He once again had North Idaho watching and gave local fishing fans another reason to be proud.
