Sports in Kansas Football Player to Watch: Akobi Bruce, Olathe North, Sr. WR | 6-0, 170
Akobi Bruce has developed into one of the top playmakers in Class 6A after making the move to wide receiver as a sophomore. The senior hauled in 45 receptions for 730 yards and nine touchdowns during the 2025 season, earning First Team All-Sunflower League and S*K All-State Non-Senior honors. Bruce also shines on the track, helping set a state record as part of Olathe North's 4x100 relay championship team. His production has attracted college attention with offers from Missouri State, Missouri Southern State, Benedictine, Northern State and Hutchinson Community College.
Bruce is looking forward to making the most of his final high school season. "This is my senior year, words can't explain how fast things have gone by," Bruce said. "But mark my words I will have over 1,000 yards." Other teammates Jayson Rush, Anthony Harris and Cameron Porter are poised for standout seasons as well. Football runs deep in Bruce's family. His father played in the NFL, his oldest brother won the Simone Award before playing at Iowa, and another older brother currently plays at Hutchinson Community College. One fun fact about Bruce that people may not know is that Bruce didn't begin playing wide receiver until his sophomore year.
