We are an historic Fur Trade re-enactment group who take canoe and boat trips down the Missouri River and other rivers.
We plan a multiple canoe and bateau trip down the Upper Missouri River in Montana to arrive at the Ft. Union National Historic Site Annual Rendezvous. Dates for the trip are June 11 through June 19, 2016.

Last year in spring some of us attempted to do the source of the Marias but it was wild runnoff all of a sudden so we bailed out and camped elsewhere. We did, however see a grizzly swimming down the river and it got out across the river...only about 30 yards away!
Some of the guys did a trip on the Wild & Scenic part of the Upper Missouri this spring. They had some trouble with wind...around Virgelle Ferry, of course.

Yesterday (May 9, 2018) the Brass Turtle was delivered to Fort Benton Historic Site in Ft. Benton, MT as a donation from the Rocky Fork Brigade for permanent display and to educate the public. Scott (Stovey) Prather and Richard (Doc) Gessling made the delivery in voyageur clothes and some sort of presentation ceremony took place. I will try to get some photos of this to post. They also spent the night there. The Brass Turtle was previously donated for use to the RF Brigade by the Colorado Canoe Boys, who built it.

Just returned home after a great trip. Will post photos soon. Last night the NPS had us evacuate the tent camp into the safety of the fort's heavily buttressed timber walls and the stone bastions. We were under a severe storm alert with 60 MPH winds and spectacular lightening all around us.
One week from now we will be on the
Missouri River and headed for Fort Union. We are taking the "Brass Turtle," Smoky's canoe and the "Perseverance" canoe. Everything is ready and we all look forward to the river trip and the Rendezvous at fort Union. We are taking lots of trade goods.
