Supporting the Salmon Population in California: Addressing the Second Statewide Closure of the Chinook Salmon Fishery
As we witness the devastating impact of the second statewide closure of the Chinook Salmon fishery, it is crucial to recognize the profound economic repercussions on Californians, particularly affecting small businesses and family-owned enterprises dependent on Salmon fishing. NCGASA remains committed to spearheading the battle for Salmon conservation.
Our advocacy efforts are centered around promoting responsible Hatchery management, advocating for sound water policies, and pushing for regulatory measures that contribute to the recovery of California's salmon runs. By championing these causes, NCGASA aims to safeguard not only the salmon population but also the livelihoods of those who rely on this vital aspect of California's economy. Join us in the fight for a sustainable future for both the Salmon and the communities that depend on them.

Just wanted to thank all of the concerned sportsmen and women that spoke on behalf of the emergency sturgeon closure at the California Fish and Wildlife meeting today. Even though we lost the Sacramento River to sturgeon fishing for many years to come I do want to thank the two Sacramento River anglers that took the time to voice their concerns about it closing. Thank you Reid Lamson and Robert Dunn! All of you from the bay delta that showed up and spoke to the commission thank you too!! I really appreciated your support today. Thank you.

Latest episode of Cal in the Field is up on the YouTube channel. Striped bass, king salmon, and the mighty Sacramento. Big thanks to and for putting up with me.
Edited: Depending on the platform, which are several that we share information from they all don’t play friendly together. ( they really need to go fishing and chill out a bit). Below is the link.

It has not been a red hot bite early but as the river warms the bite heats up.
I have seen more high 20 pound and low 30 pound class salmon this year than any other year in the last ten and expect to see more this week and even larger into October.
We have landed two kings recently 29 and 32 pounds. They are fresh and feisty. When you we get you hooked into one these they are no joke.

The 2021 fall salmon run on the lower Sacramento River is building everyday with many above average king salmon being landed daily. Professional guides and private boaters alike are putting their salmon fishing skills to work with great results. "I have seen more salmon early and often this year so far with more salmon over 20 pounds than I've seen in years" reports Sacramento River salmon fishing guide Dave Jacobs.
Catching several large king salmon over 20 pounds is likely so far this season and some lucky anglers with Dave Jacobs Professional Guide Service have landed massive kings 29 and 31 pounds recently! "Just today we had two salmon weigh in at 24 and 28 pounds" reports Jacobs.
This season the peak of the run is building now with tremendous salmon fishing just around the corner! You can count on all of September and early October being prime time. The Boondoglers are doing fantastic right now dragging bait or beads downriver as these salmon "blast" through the Sacramento River in search of clean cold water before the spawn. Anglers are scoring on these king salmon "river wide" on light tackle from Anderson Balls Ferry downriver to the Knights Landing Bridge. Occasionally some of the largest king salmon grab ahold of a "old style" kwikfish plug back bounced through some prime salmon holding waters on the Sacramento River.

Now is the time to book your trip. Give us a call so we can check your availability.

We have been seeing new fresh king salmon moving through and rolling daily as these king salmon navigate through over one hundred miles of inhospitable warm water. These kings are moving day and night non stop until they get relief from the cold 57 degree waters we are fishing here south of the Barge Hole.
Salmon will make their way into the upper salmon fishing grounds. Anglers are scoring on above average king salmon to 30 pounds drifting or back bouncing cured roe or backtrolling sardine wrapped "old style" kwikfish plugs.
