In just a few days, select junior team athletes will be heading to Sarasota, Florida for the USRowing Youth National Championships! Beginning June 11th, the event features four days of elite 2,000-meter racing as the nation’s top young athletes compete for national titles.

Even though thousands of miles will separate most of us from our juniors competing in these races, we will be cheering as loud as ever and rooting them on every step (or stroke) of the way! To join us in supporting our juniors, livestreams of the events can be found here: https://www.overnght.com/sports/rowing

Good luck rowers!!! 💪🏅💙

☀Feels like summer but it's technically still spring. That means you have time to sign your junior up for our Summer Jump Start Camp! This four-week intensive camp is for rising 9th-12th graders who want to know more about or plan to join SRA’s high school team. Participants will work hard as they learn about rowing technique, fitness training, and the commitment required to be part of SRA’s year-round competitive team.

Jump Start is highly recommended but not required for fall participation. It is the right place for anyone who has not previously rowed on SRA’s high school team, including former middle school rowers. No prior experience is required.

You think a 5k is long? How about 70 miles?! That's what 10 of our masters athletes completed this past weekend as they rowed from Tacoma to Port Townsend in the Seventy48 event. The premise of the event is that participants must finish the distance in less than 48 hours in any human-powered watercraft. The event began at 7:00pm on Friday so participants rowed through the night.

Despite the difficulties of the distance (and managing bathroom breaks), our athletes completed the distance in 18.5 hours without landing or sleeping. They rotated coxswain duties every couple of hours.

Rowing has a way of showing you what you are capable of and these 10 rowers proved they are capable of amazing feats with teamwork and perseverance. Thank you to our other community members who helped them prepare, cheered them on along the course, and supported their effort. Congratulations!

As we wrap up an incredible Junior Girls Team season, we want to take a moment to celebrate the tremendous success of this year and thank all of you for your support throughout it. It's hard for our coaches to believe how quickly this year went by. The year was full of challenges, hard work, and of course— ample fun and team bonding.

One of the biggest highlights of the season was retaining the Women’s Team Points Trophy at Northwest Junior Regionals. After trailing in points for most of the weekend, it all came down to the final event, and the team pulled it off! Moments like that are why this trophy means so much to our team. It truly takes every single athletes' hard work and commitment to have this success. While there are always wins and losses in racing, every result matters and every athlete plays a role in the final outcome. Bravo to our Junior Girls Team! 💙

Our Junior Boys Team had an incredible season and capped things off perfectly at Regionals last weekend! Our coaches are so proud of what the rowers accomplished this season–the results from Regionals were the product of the long, deliberate, and often cold practices and processes over the whole year. It’s been such a joy to watch all of the commitment and growth that our athletes have shown over the last nine months.

The boys team results included the following top finishes:

Varsity 8+ | 1st
2nd Varsity 8+ | 1st
3rd Varsity 8+ | 1st
4th Varsity 8+ | 1st, 3rd and 11th
U17 8+ | 1st and 5th
U16 8+ | 1st
Varsity 4+ | 1st
Varsity 4- | 2nd
2nd Varsity 4+ | 1st
3rd Varsity 4+ | 2nd
4th Varsity 4+ | 1st and 2nd
U17 4+ | 2nd
Novice 4+ | 4th and 9th
U16 4x+ | 8th

In addition, SRA won the Boys Team Points Trophy for the fifth consecutive year, the Girls Team Points Trophy for the second consecutive year, and the Overall Team Points Trophy for four consecutive year! We also took home the Efficiency Points Trophy for the first time ever! The points trophies are very important to us as a program, and we emphasize to the rowers that this reflects the work and contribution of every rower on the team! 🏅 Congratulations athletes and well done.
