When I first got the courage to start my business, I set up a meeting with the owner of a high-end spa to pitch my idea.

When I arrived, I could see her in her office (through the glass) but she wasn't ready for me. After about 30 minutes, her assistant told me she couldn't see me and we'd have to talk by phone. I left disappointed and feeling small...then very quickly, I got pi**ed 😡!!

She told me later that others had tried to build a business at the spa and it didn't work. So instead of believing her, I got mad and said (when I hung up) "oh yeah, WATCH me!!"

Soon after, I found a much better location and launched my business. And yes, 20+ years later, it worked 😁.

Last year, I contributed to an article on LinkedIn about burnout in larger companies and here's what I shared.

As a Business & Career Coach who specializes in helping women create "success without exhaustion", I work with burnout (or the potential of it) regularly 😮‍💨.

Over my 20+ years of coaching, I've coached women in small, mid and large-sized organizations - at varying levels - and can definitely see differences in burnout, especially since the pandemic.

My career pro and exec clients in bigger companies tend to be challenged by more complex office politics and dynamics - simply because there are many more people in the mix and often extremely high expectations with not enough support.

My background is in psychotherapy and one of the most common complaints/experiences I hear about are leaders who are emotionally unhealthy. This occurs at every level and it's especially detrimental to talented employees who question their own professional (and personal) worth as a result of poor management.

Execs, upper management and leaders need (and deserve) some serious help with their own burnout so they can support others in healthier ways. This starts at the top when it comes to defining company values and culture - and needs to filter down so minimizing burnout becomes embedded in how the people and the company operate on a daily basis 🤝.

Big stuff that's so very important to retain talent and increase the bottom line.

Imposter syndrome convinces capable women they need more proof before they can trust themselves.

👩‍💻 It's the established business owner who lacks confidence in her experience.

BTW, I have personally felt all of these things!!

Imposter syndrome rarely appears in a vacuum.

As women, we're frequently held to different standards, more heavily scrutinized and conditioned to believe we need to exceed expectations just to be taken seriously.

Here's your reminder that you do not need to earn your right to take up space, over and over again.

You're allowed to trust your experience now…even if that's uncomfortable...even if you don't feel "ready." 🫤.
