Dear DAC dancers, families, and friends,

After 52 fabulous years, DAC is sad to announce we will be closing our doors at the end of August. Until then, we’ll be teaching all classes as scheduled, so drop in for a last class with your favorite teachers!

See below for a letter from DAC’s founder and owner, Jayne Zaban.

July 3rd 2022

Dear Students and family,

This is one of the most difficult letters I have ever written. It is with great sadness, after 52 years, Harry and I have decided to retire and close the doors at Dance Arts Center. It has been quite a run! For the past few years, due to Covid, our class enrollment has dwindled and we have had to subsidize the income from our personal resources. We have given it our all and feel that the time is right.

When Berle and I decided to become partners, we wanted to have a studio where it was not only a safe place for students, but one that remained true to our motto: To Teach and Be Dedicated to The Performing Arts. We decided against recitals and competitions to spend the time to work on technique and prepare the students to further their dance education in college or move on to touring companies, ballet companies and Broadway.

You all have been so much a part of my life and the Dance Arts Center family. We can’t thank you enough for your dedication and loyalty. We have through August to continue what we do best and hope you will be here with us.

Please know we will be here to help with questions to make the transition as easy as possible.

Thank you again for your commitment to Dance Arts Center.

Love,

Jayne

DAC is sad to announce the passing of Founder and director emeritus, Berle Davis (born July 5, 1941, died Aug. 19, 2021). In addition to founding DAC in 1970, Berle’s professional work included resident choreographer for Peninsula Civic Light Opera, choreographer for numerous San Mateo High School musicals, and director of The Jazz Set, a professional performance company. His legacy of hundreds of students and cast members will continue to carry dance forward in the Bay Area and beyond.
