Please join us in welcoming Aaron to the 148 Jiu Jitsu family!
Aaron dropped in today to check out one of our Fundamentals classes and wasted no time becoming part of the team, signing up immediately after class. He also bought a new Gi! A man after my own heart!
What makes this especially noteworthy is that Aaron is already a highly accomplished and skilled Kempo Karate practitioner. Despite his experience and success, he recognized a gap in his game if a fight were to end up on the ground and made the decision to address it head-on.
That takes humility.
It takes confidence to acknowledge where you’re vulnerable, and it takes discipline to walk through a new door and start over as a beginner. Those qualities earned my respect immediately.
We’re excited to be a part of Aaron’s journey and look forward to watching him grow on the mats. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s an incredibly nice guy.
Welcome aboard, Aaron!
And a huge thank you to George Foster for the referral. We appreciate the trust. 💪🏽🦍🥋🇺🇸🇧🇷

Professionals don’t wait for challenges to find them—they seek them out. They willingly put themselves in difficult situations to test their character, sharpen their skills, and grow stronger through adversity.
As a law enforcement officer, understands that mindset. He dedicates himself to mastering his craft both on the streets and on the mats, constantly striving to be better than he was yesterday.
Today, we were proud to promote Levi to Purple Belt. This achievement is a reflection of countless hours of hard work, consistency, sacrifice, and perseverance. More importantly, it reflects the kind of man he is. Levi embodies the core values of our academy: Honor, Discipline, and Respect.
Keep grinding, Levi. Your dedication has not gone unnoticed, and this promotion is well earned. We are proud of you and excited to see what comes next in your journey. 💪🏽👮🏻♂️🦍🥋🇺🇸.

There’s something different about the people who show up to noon class.
They’re not there because it’s convenient. They’re not there because they have extra time. Most of them are giving up their lunch break, stepping away from work, responsibilities, and comfort to come test themselves on the mats.
That tells me everything I need to know about their character. While others are eating, scrolling, or making excuses, they’re choosing growth over comfort. They’re choosing to be uncomfortable. They’re choosing to improve.
That kind of commitment can’t be taught.
HONOR. DISCIPLINE. RESPECT.
Not just words on our wall. It’s a way of life. The noon crew lives it.💪🏽🦍🥋🇺🇸. Noon Class Professor: ⬛️⬛️⬛️🟥🟥🟥⬛️

We are proud to announce the very first recipient of the Sheriff Bob Jonsen Scholarship — Darwin.
Darwin represents everything we stand for at 148 Jiu Jitsu.
HONOR. RESPECT. DISCIPLINE.
Over the past year, he has shown up, put his head down, and gone to work. No shortcuts. No excuses. Just consistent effort, a great attitude, and the kind of character that makes a coach proud. Watching his growth on and off the mats has been something special.
This scholarship is more than support — it’s an investment in a young man who has earned it.
For the next year, Darwin’s journey will be backed fully:
• Competition entry fees for events
• Travel and meals
• A custom 148 Gorilla Gi with an official Office patch
• A custom sweatshirt with Sheriff’s Office patch
• And more gear to support his path
Bob Jonsen has built a reputation as a leader who recognizes hard work and brings out the best in people. For him to believe in our academy and in Darwin means a great deal to us.
This is bigger than competition.
This is about giving opportunity to someone who has earned it through discipline and character.
Darwin — we’re proud of you. Now go chase it.
Thank you,

Yesterday wasn’t just about medals. It was about legacy.
My student Justin, a white belt, stepped into the fire and competed in one of the toughest arenas there is. He lost two hard-fought matches, battled through adversity, and walked away with bronze. But medals only tell part of the story. What made me damn proud as a coach was his courage to show up, test himself, and leave everything on the mat. That’s what real victory looks like. That is Jiu Jitsu!
Earlier in the day, his 5-year-old son Colten competed and earned silver after winning one and losing one. But the moment I’ll remember most had nothing to do with metals or podiums. It was the way Colten looked at his father after Justin fought his heart out. That look of pride… that look of admiration… that silent lesson every son needs to see.
Because kids don’t just listen to what we say. They watch what we do.
Yesterday Colten saw his dad be brave. He saw his dad struggle. He saw his dad refuse to quit. He saw what a man looks like when he steps into the arena.
That bronze medal will fade with time. But the example Justin set for his son will last a lifetime.
I am proud of both of them, not just as a coach but as a father. That’s what Jiu Jitsu is really about. 🙏🏽❤️🦍🥋🇺🇸🇧🇷 EarnedNotGiven
